Evo VIII Cams in DSM? [Merged 5-9] 8 cam

My friend is upgrading the cams on his evo VIII so he'll be getting rid of the stockers. Would the stock evo cams be a good upgrade for my car (97 gsx)?

The evo8 motor is not turned 180, it is not reversed in any way either. The motor is mirrored compared to 1g and 2g cars. Think hard and long about what mirrored means and try and picture it in your head before you chime in.

The thread starter never asked about the evo motor, he was asking about the cams, and if they were an upgrade, and never got back to ther post of whether or not they fit. I think some people are curious to the results of his "mod" and how it worked out. I would've never touched it being 2 yrs old though.

No biggie. So if the engine is mirrored? Are the cams mirrored? . . .

Since the cams are mirrored are the cam timing events mirrored? . . .

So cam timing events are morrored? Will cam timing events that are mirrored be like unmirrored cam timing events? . . .

Do cam timing evens have a tremendous impact on how an engine runs and flows? . . .

Lol its funny people still even think these will fit, You can use EVO8 pistons in your car since they are better than 2Gs and are stronger now that is true.


I know 3 people running Evo8s so that is the only thing you could run.

Cripes, I just love how people nic pic and say the exact same dam thing. Getting specific. NOTHING is mirrored. Nearly everything is new and not left from the old 4G63. Look at the head, valve cover, exhaust manifold, trans bolt pattern, etc. None of those are mirrored parts. More so, not getting that specific, the block is turned 180, the head is mirrored. If the engine was mirrored, it'd rotate in the same direction.

Now regarding if they work or not, I don't think any one has tried here. Lots of hearsay, but no one as actually done it or tried. To those claiming it's been tried by wisemen, please point us in the direction of the threads.

The lift and duration on these cams hardly merit the effort it will take to swap them, even if the cams were to fit properly. All they offer really is a lighter weight.

Do you people really think that no one has tried to swap evo8 cam's into a dsm? Or, do you think it's a builders secret?

I would have to agree on the closing. Best way to find out if you are skeptical is to try it and find out. I think I have tried a crap load of trial and error to find out what will work and what wont. And seriously, some of the people everyone is arguing points to have probably not been on the site in quite a while, so it is like beating a dead horse. And dsm-onster, I was never doubting anything anyone said, just to clarify.

For the sake of discussion, in neither case did he try it. In the first link, if you rotate the cam (like it runs in the engine) , then it's the same. I don't really follow the logic there.

Call up AMS and ask them for your selfs, why are HKS say for EVO8 and ones for our cars say 4G63. Different desing but the same motor, EVOs heads are different from 1g heads.
