evo 8 oil filter in 1G dsm

will a evo 8 or 3000gt oil filter fit on a 1g dsm? i need a smaller oil filter for my 1g dsm? help

I gave up and put in a remote oil filter. I would rather have a larger filter in a remote location than a smaller filter close to the exhaust. Extra heat, limited filter media. Sounds like a oil cokeing oven recipie. Our cars run hot enough all ready

I always use a 3000gt VR-4 filter, fits perfect.

Evo filter works fine, I have been using them for my last 3 oil changes. Gives me more clearance around the DP.

i use an evo 8 filter also.. its shorter so more room by the DP

theres not really anything special about the evo filter. mitsu uses 2 filters a 116 and 072 072 is what i use its smaller well skinnier and longer the 116 is shorter and fatter. of course thats not the whole part number just the last 3 digits. use whichever one fits and gives you the best clearance if you use the parts store 1g filters they are huge.

Yes, it should fit fine. It has a larger diameter but is not as tall/long so there is more clearance between the filter and downpipe. MZ690116 is the one I use.

The Evo VIII oil filter is the same part number that is used on all 7-bolt DSMs, 1992.5 on (Wix 51356).

The 1990-1992.5 6-bolts use a different filter (Wix 51381).


Both options are around the same length, the 6-bolt filter is a slightly larger diameter.

hey guys whats up i just got back from the parts store and i got both evo 8 and a 91 tsi oil filter. the evo 8 oil fitler is definetly smaller. and the or ing is slightly smaller. know will this evo 8 oil filter seal my oil filter housing? i just dont wanna buy a 15 dollar oil filte and throit waya bc it doesnt fit. somehelp thanks

We sell the Wix 51356's at my workplace for $5.49, and that's one of the best filters money can buy. I can't imagine anything being worth three times the price of a Wix.

I use Mobil 1 M110 filters for my 2g 7-bolt, which is the same filter for Evos. I also test fit one of the M110s on my Evo 3 filter housing that I bought for my build. Seals good, o-ring fully contacts the flange. Granted that Evo 3 filter housings dont have a provision for the factory engine oil cooler, so whatever filter you use on it should fit in regards to the downpipe.

Ya my oil filter is super close to my downpipe as well, it could be cool to have a smaller one but then again buying a oil filter relocation kit would be easy as well so I would probably just do that.

Depending how your stuff fits, you may want to try the purolator part number 14459. It's a honda application, but it's sortof an "average" between the two different DSM sizes. It's skinnier than the fat one, but bigger around than the smaller one, and shorter than the small one, but longer than the short/fat one. I used it for years when I had clearance issues. I no longer have those issues but still use it out of habit.

I use the NAPA filters. I worked there for years and found out that they are just WIX blanks. If not I usually use WIX or Mobile 1 if I have too. I miss working for a parts store. Although I can get good deals where I work now, it's just not the same.
