Picked up an Evo 8 maf from a buddy yesterday and he included the whole airbox and fresh k&n filter. I know I can modify the 1g maf base to accept the evo maf but I was wondering if anybody has ever modified the Evo airbox to fit in the 1g? I know I'll have to ditch the lid and trim the legs but if anyone has done it before I could always use the pointers.

Filter changes is one of the bigger benefits I see in using the air box. I can dig the whole sleeper look but I'm more into the "lightly modified" look. I've done a little measuring and there's roughly 7 inches of height from the smic hole to the bottom of the hood. Cutting the legs and and ditching the lid gets me to about 7 1/2 inches. I can trim the rubber around the top of the filter and maybe get a tight fit. I should have my harness plug from ecmtuning by Wednesday so I'll maybe try it all out then.

no need to modify the 1G MAF housing base...you can remove it completely, as the 1G intake hose matches the diameter of the evo8 MAF exit.

i hope i was clear on that...

and i hope this was what you were asking...

There's really no particular reason. I figure I got the stuff... why not try to make it work and "maximize" my dollar. I already talked to a buddy about cutting the 1g can to fit the new maf long before I made this thread. I'm definitely not opposed to the idea. But like I said... I got a perfect fine evo air box with a practically new k&n filter so why not use it if I can.

Just do it man, you have all the parts on hand, the worst thing that can happen is you end up using the stealthy evo maf in the 1g filter box/ cylinder.

I actually got lucky and found, the rare, 1g carb legal HKS mushroom intake, and I plan on hiding a 2g maf inside it, maybe some day upgrading to the evo maf, or possibly running speed density.

I think I'm gonna try to make it work this weekend. Gotta replace my water pipe o rings so I'll do them while my buddy cuts and trims things to make em fit. I was gonna switch to speed density but I figure it's more than I need for anything I plan on doing in the next 3-5 years.

So I got the maf hooked up. Sadly it wasn't in the evo air bix. I may have been able to get it to fit with enough cutting and whatnot but I'd rather not hack my car up any worse that the PO's have already done. Now to figure out why I'm breaking up under boost.
