Evo 8 ECU In 2g Works!!

Can you guys suggest a file for me to use?
I currently have a dnp t4 manifold, pte 6776h, 1450cc injectors, 255 pump, 044 inline, afpr, stock cams, 3" exhaust, 4bar omnipower map. Obviously run SD, anti-lag/2 step, etc. etc.

I would suggest you run a stock rom with the maf and injector compensations and tune from there. I would also suggest trying to tune with a maf and after you have that straightened out switch to SD.

Yeah same here, i haven't had much time to even mess with the car. Only progress ive made is getting livemap to work.

Im using the 1.3u cable so im still able to use the livemap app. Logging is so crazy fast, and im really digging the cel trace feature.

I can say with absolute certainty that live mapping (either in John's original client, or ziad's new version) does not work with OP2.0 right now.

For the geeks: both versions are using the D2XX (FTDI) API, not the J2534 interface that Colby supplies with OP2.0. I don't suspect adding support would be too difficult, but none of the people involved in development have an OP2.0 device to test with. Hamish hasn't shown any interest in adding support for the DMA logging extensions to EvoScan, so you shouldn't expect to see it there anytime soon either.

I don't want to rag on Hamish too much because he puts out an excellent product but I really wish that he would focus a bit less on blingy extra features and go through his product comprehensively to fix some of its more annoying bugs, then focus on stuff like DMA logging, and then give me niftiness like flashing from evoscan, a dyno simulator, and pretty gauges.

Hopefully this new release is exactly that, a super stable bug free product with just the cool stuff he happened to develop in the meantime.

I got mine running, but noticed that the cooling fan does not turn on. Other than the wires, any ideas what else to look at? Is it a setting on the ECU? I dont have any way to look at the ECU. I bring it to the shop and have them put a base map so I can get it running then bring the car over...

Are you sure you swapped the ECU wires correctly? I'm guessing you can't even activate them with the button in EvoScan?

On another note though, I have SD now running on my car. I'm a good bit rich under boost right now, but it does run fine. I've tried to keep it so the load = kPa at a few key points (like 100 load = 0 psi) and it's working pretty well. I bet that I'm not going to be able to keep that up top though where there's less resolution.

It does run much smoother though. I like how it got rid of the jerkyness I had when I let off the throttle lightly. And the vented HKS SSQV sounds pretty good vented with the recirc adapter still on it.

The tune still needs a good bit of work though:
- Cold startup is crazy lean. It pretty much maxes out the STFT, even when's only cooled to 150*F.
- Tip in is a little lean. Not that bad, but a little lean.
- I need to get the on boost leaned out a bit. It runs up to 10psi, but at that point it's 10:1AFR.

Just updating:

I had some more time today to mess with getting the SD dialed in. I drove it 3 hours from State College to Pittsburgh, PA without a problem. I stopped a few times to make some small adjustments, but overall, it's much better now than it was.

I've fixed the cold start up. That just required bumping the post cranking enrichment vs. coolant temp tables up some. I fixed the lean tip in (actually went a little too far and made it a bit rich) by adjusting the the the Accel Async vs. Delta TPS table. I was having a problem with knock until I realized that I had forgotten to transfer my knock multipliers from my MAF rom over.

Overall, I'm really really pleased with the results so far. My car no longer stutters on throttle lift. The BOV also no longer flutters. The ricer inside of me is happy with the way the vented SSQV sounds. :p It's going to take a few days worth of driving to get the last bit of it dialed in, but I can live with that. Once a few new silicone couplers show up, I'll start turning the boost up.

The goal is to run about 23psi with the small 16g and the Comp 101200 cams. I'm not sure the turbo will be able to hold that to redline, but we'll see. I think I'll be nearing the edge of 93 pump gas with no sort of water/meth injection pretty soon. I'm hoping for some 12's at the track in 2 weeks. I'll slip the laptop under the seat like last time so I'll have logs.

Sound's like you've made some good progress, congrats. I was just having fun with livemap but my engine decided to die so i have no further progress to report.

It's running pretty good now. I drove it about 300 miles this weekend, so I have about 400 on it since the SD swap.

I ordered the couplers from a place in CA, but they didn't give me a tracking number. They said 7-14 days, and today will be day 12. I need those. I'm going with some friends to the drag strip on 4/16 and I want to be 100% sure that I can't blame the tune again. I talked smack last time and failed horribly. I had forgotten to increase the fuel cut load.

Also, my new tires should be arriving today. UPS tracking has them in town. Now as long as someone is home to pick them up.... stupid classes.
Now I just need to track down some Evo 8 or 9 rims for cheap.

Good luck finding either for cheap. I've been looking for a set for weeks now without much success.

My car is misfiring and just throwing an all out fit at 13psi. It hits that and then it sputters. I've eliminated spark plugs and wires. The next place I looked was the code.

Evo 8 Coil Charge Time

(Using the same scaling "Coil Time" that Ceddy has defined in the DSM roms)

I think I see a problem. Am I understanding this correctly? It looks like we need to add some charge time when using the DSM coils.

Well the guys on EvoM seems to think it's a dying coil.

I don't really have any vacuum hoses to be disconnected. I deleted all the emissions stuff.

I have my SD tune setup to hit the same load cells I was hitting on the MAF. I was having the same problems with the MAF setup too.

I did some more logging tonight. The odd thing is that when it starts to stutter/misfire, it goes lean. I don't know which happens first, the stuttering or it going lean. And at only 13psi...

I still need to see if I can brake boost it past 13psi. I could on the MAF. ??? That almost makes me think it's an issue with the rom.

EDIT:

Just went out and regapped the plugs from .028" down to .024" and it now sputters at 15psi instead. I'm starting to lean towards the coil packs being bad. I have a friend with a GST. I'll swap packs with him and see later this week.

Oxygen sensors read very lean when the engine misfires because there is a large amount of unburned oxygen sent into the exhaust. The stuttering is causing the lean readings.

It definitely sounds like something needs replacing in the ignition system. Check plug wires and coil packs first, it sounds like it's a voltage leak or short out on the high side or coil posts. Easiest method I've found for checking it is looking for arcs at nighttime.

could you post a pic of your VE tables, accel vs Delta, coolant temp enrichment tables?

Ive been running my evo ecu with stock 2g coils and stock evo coil charge for over a year so i really doubt that's the problem. And you should visit socal to find a set of evo 8 wheels. They go real cheap over here as low as $150 a set.

Any of you guys have a cel constantly? Mine wont go away, even after getting rid of the codes. The car runs though..
