Evo 8 ECU In 2g Works!!

So just out of curiosity, what ROMs have everyone settled on? There's been lots of talk and lots of switching, and lots of trial and error.

If you wouldn't mind:

ROM (and version)
CELs
Other issues

96530006 Tephra v5.10.
Usually none.
My MAF scaling #s seem much lower than what most of you are running.

Rom changing between 9653006 Tephra 5.10 and 9653 V7
No cels what so ever
Running stock 2g maf, evo injectors and my maf scaling is very similar to knochgoon24's

curnetly on 9417 v5.10 with applauds "fully" defined xml. tons of cels egr stuff and cam sensor and speed sensor. i posted up my maf scaling beore. 2g maf 450cc injectors scale to the specs of the 2g rom. trims with in +/- 2% runs great. switching back to the 9653 after i get my turbo and injector upgrade to run v7.

96530706-t5
No CELs
SD, ecu gear based boost, valet mode.

Now that the weather has gotten colder (20s-40s) I have a pretty ugly lean spot cropping up when I first touch the throttle but this is entirely a symptom of SD and me not having had the time to get in there and tune that out.

has the valet mode acted up on you before? mine wouldnt disengage after like the 3rd day i had it . i had to do like 10 flashes. tephra and non tephra to get it off. im scared to use it now. . LOL. i wanna run sd in the spring as well might buy the stuff i need for it now just scared to run it... dont know why.

My valet mode has never been an issue for me. Have you checked to make sure that your tps reads >90% with your foot all the way to the floor?

SD was pretty easy to implement. Getting the tune 100% correct is harder but you can get the car running very well within a couple of hours and as long as you watch your wideband and you have knockCEL on then you wont have any issues with damage.

I have a lean spot with the 2g MAF right at 350 Hz.
302Hz is dead on, so is 403Hz. But in between, where this isn't any points to tune, I go almost a full point lean, even with lean spool disabled.

I'm going to try switching up the points to see if I can get a 350Hz. I'll probably get rid of 25Hz. From what I've been told. There are only 2 maps that use that Hz scaling. The other is MAF Compensation.

SD is my project for next spring.

94170015 w/Tephra 5.10
Speed density
2 CEL, cam/crank cels
6 bolt 2.3L w/ported head, stock cams, and 14b.

Hediki12, any chance you could send me your fully defined 94170015?

I personally kind of think using 9417xxxx roms is a little bit silly. The 9653 works as a complete replacement for any usdm rom and is much more fully supported. 9055 I can still see as a viable option because it is the only non9653 rom that doesn't throw any CELs and makes everything work.

Is there a reason those of you running 9417s use it?

Has anyone tryed logging wgdcc on a stock bcs . Tephra said I have an error because the value doesn't movefrom 63.5% does anyone have the same prob?

I haven't tried. With an automatic and AWD, it would take quite a bit of power to break tires loose. I still haven't yet, even with all seasons.

Without the need for gear dependent boost control, I figure the MBC works just fine for me.

The thing that gear dependent boost would do for you is allow you to run higher boost in lower gears. That would largely be for situations where you may not have enough fuel for higher boost in high gear where you end up flowing a fair amount more or where you push your turbo to the point of heatsoaking your intercooler. In those positions you could push a little bit more power in the lower gears out of a setup that otherwise might be maxed out. IIRC having enough fuel isn't a problem for you and likely your small16g isn't heatsoaking your intercooler at any point so it might not apply to you but there are gains even in a car that isn't limited by traction.

Like i posted on that thread my wgdc works fine and the stock setting for a stock rom i believe is 100%.

I don't understand this either i mean its been proven that almost every 2g whose tried to run this rom has had at least 1 issue with cels. The 9653 rom works great on my ecu (originally 9417) and like you said there's tons of support for the 9653 rom. Still waiting to implement the SD patch once i buy a map sensor.

And on another subject anyone using the tephra V7 rom? Ive been trying to but ive been finding it a bit difficult to change my settings from the old small rom to the big rom.

I'm pushing 23psi through the small 16g right now. Without an IAT sensor, I don't know what my intake temps are. My FMIC doesn't get too warm, especially with the colder weather that's just moved in.

I have plenty of fuel. I just need to get out and get some airflow logs to see just where I stand on the compressor maps and such.

EDIT:
WOW! Just took a peek over at evolutionm and noticed that they released the new V7. Talk about options. They are really getting their $hit together with these roms.
I really like that AFR Safety option and how they have the roms in "Stages". Already having the OBDII readiness stuff done and disabled. Sweet. Lean spool taken care of too.

They really are making it easy on us.

yea i wanna run ecu based boost not for traction but for just more fine tuning boost so it'll hold better and lower it for high gear knock so i dont sacrifice low gear tune and timing. ^_^. can you log it for the hell of it and let me know what value you get? thnx

Im currently in the process of going to the V7 mods, much larger tables so tuning will be much better once I get them smoothed out. My buddy in his evo just switched to SD so I hope to be following suit in the next few months. I didnt look this up yet, but anyone know or can give advice about wiring in a GM Map or an AEM map sensor? I figure since my JMFab mani doesnt have a map hole Ill go with a setup like the GM, plus they are much cheaper...

no i saw the table for wgdc. but you have also wgdc coreection aka wgdcc... which is difrent ...

Ahh i miss read that, ill try logging that tomorrow and post up some results. Also i used tephras big map conversion XML to finally apply the 9653V7 patch and so far so good. Gotta do some tuning pulls and see how beneficial all the new features are.:hellyeah: On the down side i still need to buy a map sensor!:banghead:

thnx! , yea im a little confused with the whole v7 still. LOL. just havent read enough about it i guess. yea i just ordered my fmic and tail bov so im broke for now... no wide band no sensors.... no turbo. smh:cry::cry:

I'm pretty pleased with the idea of the new big maps, I don't really need them but they come at a time when I already have to rescale since I'm running off the edge of the stock map with my load right now and desperately need to rescale.

I agree that it is nice to have everything put together already and the new nomenclature for tephra and sd roms is pretty nice.

Yeah, I'm at around 29 psi all the way up. With a MBC, I can hold a max of like 23 if I have the low end at 32. I'm running around 25 in 1st gear so I [almost] have traction, and I have the boost come on a little smoother instead of the crazy hit the 16g has which breaks the tires loose in 2nd and breaks clutches and trannies.

Theres not much that the standard V7 patch changed except for a few little features with boost control and the larger tables which you wont need close to the load numbers they supply so scale them down and convert the tables using your old values and fill in between smoothing out the graphs in the process and you wont have a problem. I havent messed with the SD patch yet because I dont have the sensors.

I really like the new big maps, because they can A allow for more resolution if sticking with 260 as max load or B you can now tune higher hp cars in a nicer way. Either way i like my V7 patch but i did start having some random knock today after flashing the new rom. Might of forgot to change the knock tables but other than that it seems good so far.
