I played with it a bit after I found an old post. I went up to 30 for low knock and still was getting the 100 counts.

Then something must be wrong. Have you tried a 9055 rom, just for kicks?

If you want, I can clean up one of my ROMS and send it to you. You'll just have to change the injector stuff. I'll set it back to the "stock" MAF scaling, then you can go from there. I think my MAF numbers are low because I only have a 3" filter.

Let me check my knock address like suggested below. If that doesn't pan out for me I'll let you know and get that rom from you. I won't have time to fool with it again till tomorrow afternoon.

For all the time you guys spend diddling with your MAFs why not just spend a little money (<$100) and pick up the parts to make the SD switch? Tuning is actually super easy and then you can sell your 2g MAFs to make a little bit back on the hardware that you added.

Ive been wanting to hop on the speed density setup but funds are just extremely limited at the moment so that will have to wait. Gotta do with what i have (Im sure my 560's hate their lives too). But i really do have to go rescale my maf again this weekend, hopefully i find some time to do so.

Just realized, but most of us still working on the Evo ecu swap thing are 97's.

Yup, whats the point for 98/99 cars and we still don't have a proper solution for 95/96 cars. Ceddy appears to have found the code relating to their problems in the H8 so maybe we can borrow bits of his work and convince an evo guru to find and fix the issues for those cars as well.

the_mork, in your opinion, which would be the easier path? installing a 98/99 ecu or an evo 8 ecu? I've been following this thread very closely and it appears that there is a lot more development on the evo 8 ecu vs 98/99.

Easier? There isn't much difference, putting the 98/99 ecu into a 97 should pretty much be a matter of removing a kick panel, unbolting the ecu, unplugging it then plugging it back in. The evo8 ecu is all of that plus snipping a wire and moving a couple others around. So strictly speaking an evo8 ecu takes more effort but its so minimal it doesn't matter.

The main advantage IMO as far as ease is that once you put an H8 ecu in your car it just runs exactly the way it did before and with an evo8 ecu you have to do some stuff but the stuff you have to do to the evo8 ecu is stuff that you need to learn with the H8 ecu or it wasn't worth it to swap.

The main advantage for the evo8 ecu is that it is way more supported with super cool mods available that just wont come to the H8 ecu for quite a while. It is definitely worthwhile to ditch your MBC and move to ecu based boost control which is incredible for maintaining traction and letting you pick up power in your midrange when you are pushing the limits of your top end. You just don't have to accept a flat boost curve with a taper at the end anymore. It also uses the cheaper 1.3 cable.

At this point I would still recommend the evo8 ecu for cars not already equipped with H8 ecus. In about a year I expect to start recommending H8 ecus if development continues to be swift. I still wont advocate switching from evo8 ecus to H8 ecus if you already have one installed.

FWIW this was the best mod I have ever done to my car hands down.

I second this. By the time I sold my stock Ecu and my SAFC II, this cost me about $50 to upgrade.

Sold stocker for $75
Sold SAFC II for $150

Openport 1.3U for $125
Evoscan for $25
Evo 8 Ecu for $125
---------------------------------
Total out of pocket expenses --- $50 plus some shipping charges

I was already using the 1.3 cable and Evoscan to log, so really, it was cheaper to run the Evo 8 Ecu than the SAFC II.

It's so much better than just dialing in high and low throttle points then tuning at a couple RPM points, all the while dealing with the increased timing.

And now, with the writeup done :sneaky:, most people should be able to follow what it takes to get it installed pretty easy. It only took me about an hour and a half to install it, but I was taking lots of pictures and spent half an hour trying to figure out how to get the pins to release. I'd say it's a 45min install if you tried.

There are plenty of people on here that are willing to make you a rough ROM that should at least let your car start.

Thank you the_mork. That was exactly the information I was looking for. Hardware install wasn't what I was worried about. It was really the different capabilities between the two ecu's along with the development progress. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 6bolt with a 2g head and that's the only real difference my car has over stock other than a 14b. I have yet to purchase a MBC, boost gauge, logging software, etc... I think the evo8 ecu in conjunction with an old laptop will be the best bang for the buck for monitoring my car for quite awhile. I appreciate you drawing the crayon picture.

Skip the MBC entirely then and do the fashionable thing (at least for DSMs) and use the FPR solenoid as a boost controller. While your at it look at your EGR solenoid and see if that has a plug that fits into the stock bcs electrical port. The guys over at evolutionm are raving about the idea of a free plug in 3port bcs and I wondered if our cars were similar enough for it to work.

They're different connectors, but the FPR is simple enough, other than the weird sound (that i still can't get use to) i like it. :hellyeah:

im planning on doing this as well.. so its just cut the plug (female part) of the fpr solenoid to make it a "pig tail" an dim set? and i will have no problems with fuel? i dont have a afpr.

i just switched to 9417 and it runs a little better.. used the same maf scaling and man i dont know what was up with the 9563 but my ltft lo is with in 1%.... im going to log the ltft mid and see if its as good. because i scale dit with 9563 and it slowly started to drift away....

I don't want to get into it huge now, but when logging my fuel trims have never shown anything but 0s all across the board. Regardless of if I'm driving it or it just sits and idles. I get O2 feedback and thats it.

My LTFT show up fine with EvoScan. They always have. My low and mids are fine. High never shows anything. I don't think it's supposed to.

The Evo High Trim is set high enough, that by the time you are flowing that much air you are usually out of closed loop.

The 2Gs on the other hand have no High Trim at all.

The Trim switch over points can be edited to give better resolution where its needed for your setup.

For the 95-96 cars there really isn't a solution yet right? Any word on people working on the swap or would I be the first to attempt it?

LOL no you wont be the 1st.... i rock a 95 and im sure 2-3 other people do too. umm 9563 rom seems to work as well as 9417 there are a few problems (nothing horrendous ) that may be just 95' prone i cant confirm that but all you need to do is swap spark plug wires and your good. 97-99 you don't need to swap the plugs i beleave.

Cool and thanks.

I guess I'll have to use Evoscan for that. I have been using Mitsulogger primarily because I initially heard that it would show trims.

oo sorry i thought you had evoscan... i think this xml can be used in it(mitsulogger) too... (dont quote me), i don't remember if my mind is making this up but i think they got this xml from mitsulogger.... try posting on there and see if they can help you with your trims.

I ran one in a 96 eclipse GST until it got totaled, now I am getting ready to put it in my 96 talon. All I did was switch the wiring for the coils along with all the other required wiring changes. I had no problems with the 9653 ROM and could usually get 9055 to run correctly (every now and then it wouldn't read the O2 correctly and run crappy).
