Even though this is somewhat off topic, here

NEW EcuFLash came out. Version 1.42 and in the release notes it says

"support for flashing H8/539FA processor (e.g. Evo 6.5) via new H8539FA memory model"

Maybe this will help with flashing the eclipse ECUs

So I'm having a bit of an issue that may be somewhat unique since I assume almost everyone else has a manual transmission. My motor has reached the point where it is faster than my transmission by a fair amount and when I slam on it on an on-ramp or something I end up going to nearly redline then downshifting and hitting my rev limiter, at first I just upped my rev limiter a bit every time it happened assuming that I would reach the high point at a safe limit but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Does anyone know what it might take to solve this problem? My rev limit is now 7400, does anyone know what it is safe for a stock valvetrain to turn?

At this point my highest logged rpm is 7437 but I'm sure it would have been higher with the limiter upped.

Also evoscan has stopped giving me injector duty cycle information, what do I need to log besides the IDC function to get that information?

To determine what else needs to be logged to get IDC, there should be a function in the same row as IDC that says what other values it needs. Mine just says you need to log pulsewidth too.

IDC is computed from RPM and IPW.

i thought i read somewhere that you had to change the valves out to run anywhere above 8K because of the two piece valve design that the factory used i haven't seen anything that says when the valves start to float. may be it is time to upgrade... do you already have a shift kit or do they make one for dsm's

have you recently changed roms (i.e. tephra 5.1 to 7.0) i know that tephra made a few changes in the MUT table to log different things. also i just went trough something similar with logging fuel trims after a week of driving 40 miles to and from work i ended up re flashing the rom and they started working. just make a small change somewhere in a table that way you know the computer has to go trough the process of changing something.

Thanks everyone, I have been logging IPW and RPM so I'm not sure what is going on there, I've been flashing more or less daily because I'm getting SD dialed in. I'm to the point where the car is safe to drive for anyone who can keep it off of a curb but it is still a bit of a dog, I'm getting there though and I think my most recent rom adjustments should be getting me very close.

Translab makes a shift kit that is highly recommended but I haven't felt like laying down the $90 and an evening for it yet but now it may be time since it is certainly less expensive than a new transmission.

In order to log boost you need a map sensor capable of reading as high as you boost. A JDM evo9/exoX 3bar will do enough for most cars and is a bolt-in replacement for your stock MDP sensor. This also will allow you to use a GM 3 port or a DSM FPR solenoid to have psi based boost targeting.

In short you'll need some hardware but it works on 2gs with evo8 ecus just fine. AFAIK Jrohner is the only guy on here using it on his 2g but since evokid wrote that article he may be using it as well.

A quick update on my problems, I figured out my IDC logging issues, you need to either put IPW above IDC or select it first, I'm not sure which since I did both at the same time. I feel that this is poor behavior on Evoscan's part and I'm disappointed. I upped my rev limit to 7500 and things have been fine so far and I've also dialed in my SD settings to the point where the car doesn't feel like a dog anymore. I'm definitely getting closer despite having a stock intake snorkel and MAF still in the way, I'll ditch those when I get things working well and get myself a blowthrough intake pipe.

Hey Mork, I hate to sound like a mooch, but can I get you to send my your sd rom in its current state? I haven't been able to touch my car for the past two weeks, and am way behind on this. I would really appreciate it so I can catch up. Are you running a gm or jdm map sensor? My email is tom04841 at juno.com

I'm running a GM map sensor and I got your PM earlier but I didn't get around to it. My rom and xml are on a laptop that requires using tethering with my BB to get it connected to the internet which is a PITA. I'm not going to get to it tonight but I will do it before I leave town tomorrow evening.

Getting the car to just run and be safe is pretty easy but getting it to be snappy takes quite a bit of tinkering and I'm really not quite finished with that yet. If you use my tables directly please be careful so that you don't blow up your motor. It took me about a week of driving to work and back to get it but I think now that I've been through the process I could probably get a car running pretty well in a few hours.

I will be careful and keep an eye on my wb. I really wouldn't mind blowing it up, then it will give me an excuse to put the forged rods and pistons in that have been collecting dust for 2 months.

So I'm having a bit of an issue that may be somewhat unique since I assume almost everyone else has a manual transmission...

I'll be installing my Evo 8 Ecu here on Monday or Tuesday. I'm also rockin' the auto tranny. From the sounds of it, your transmission has just taken enough of a beating that it's worn out and slipping. The shift kit might help, but it may be too late.

I can't wait to get this ECU working. I sold the SAFC, which I had used to lean out the top end. Now my car's a dog. Ugh. Once I get some bigger injectors and fuel pump, I'm looking to just about max out this 16g.

Not a problem.

On a side note, I was having issues with my evo ecu kicking a knock sensor circuit code and my cel as knock light would flash like mad anything over 2500 rpms. so I swapped my 2g ecu back in to see if it was an ecu issue. Once I plugged in and fired up w/ the 2g ecu, no knock sensor code. So i plugged the evo ecu back in and now there is no code and the car pulls ALOT better.

If it happens again, I think I will just spend the money for an evo knock sensor and be done with it.

We've been dealing with the excessive knock at 2500-3700rpm using the knock control tables. You'll see where they are when I send you my rom and xml. I would be very curious to see if an evo knock sensor would solve our phantom knock issues so it would be great for you to get one. Not that I'm hoping for you to continue to have problems but there would be an upside to it.

Well, I got the Evo Ecu in. Now I'm throwing 5 codes using the 94170008 ROM that was originally on my ECU. (Reflashed with injector and MAF changes.)

Updated: 12:35:41
5 Diagnostic Trouble Codes Found:
----------------------------------------------
P0441
P0183
P0446 EVAP System Vent Control.
P0340 Crankshaft Position Sensor circuit.
P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor circuit.

I guess it's time to track those down.

EDIT: Gave the Tephra modded 96530006 v5.10 rom a shot. It at least idled for 15 sec without tripping a CEL. The injector scaling was off and I maxed out the fuel STFT at -25%.

AFAIK 9055 and 9653 are the only really compatible roms for our car. Everyone who has tried a 9417 rom has had basically the exact same issues that you are having. FWIW 96530006 is now the superior evo8 rom available, it has everything that you could want for it except closed loop controlled by wideband with a crossover point of 15.3 which is so far only available on the evo9 but even that is being worked on now. At one point we were concerned with getting 9417 to work because it had more options but the community has settled on 9653 as the new universal rom so we needn't bother. Switch as soon as you have the opportunity.

I switched to just a basic 96530006 rom, but I don't see the MAF scaling option listed. Plus, for some reason I have to have my injector size set to 513cc to keep from maxing out the fuel trims.

This is what I'm currently seeing listed under EcuFlash. I do have it set to developer mode.
I haven't gone into boost yet, but I did take it for a spin down the road and back. I'm not throwing any CELs at all.

I've adjusted:
Lean Spool Start to 9000RPM
Lean Spool Stop to 9000RPM
Periphery 0 bit 3 to 0 (disabled immobilizer)
Injector Battery Voltage Latency.... to what it needs for 450cc (listed earlier in this thread)
Injector scaling is at 513cc because 424cc and 450cc didn't help.
MAF size to 260

When I try to load it using the tephra xml file, I see the MAF scaling, but the load is off by a factor of 10 and I can't enter decimals.

If someone has a 100% clean 96530006 rom I could start with, that would be great, because I pulled this one off EvoEcu and I'm not sure if it's been messed with before uploading.

Maybe I need a different .xml file. I did do the latest update of EcuFlash.

Ok. I managed to get my xml file to at least show the MAF Scaling. I had to add
PHP:
<table name="MAF Scaling" category="Fuel" type="2D" level="3" address="3306" scaling="AirFlow8">
	<table name="Load" type="Y Axis" elements="21" address="6330" scaling="uint16"/>
</table>

To my evo7base_20081101 xml file. For some reason, Ecuflash isn't looking at the 96530006 xml file I have.

actually, Airflow/Hz raw scaling and MAF scaling are the same. somewhere along the line someone, decided to change the name. i think it happened around Tephra mod 5.1. there have been a few changes over time. like there use to be 4 "max WGDC" and " Boost Desired Engine load" now there are only 2. if you want you can dig trough and add MAF scaling back to your XML but you will find that if you open both tables and change one the other will change with it.
