egr solenoid>causing knock

hey, My egr solenoid ticks really loud when it is cold outside and I was wondering if anyone has heard of this thing being picked up by the knock sensor? It drives me crazy Is their any way of just removing the egr solenoid but keep the rest of the egr stuff or do you have to remove everything smog related.

You should test the EGR solenoid to see if it's bad. If so, replace it. If not, start looking elsewhere for the root cause of the problem.

if something is wrong with the egr shouldn't I get a CEL. I was told that these solenoids tend to tick and even replacing them sometimes doesn't stop the ticking.

Mine have never ticked. I'm on my 2nd set of solenoids (EGR and fuel purge are sold as a single bolt on unit, including the bracket).
