I have this problem posted on the ECMlink boards, but I've honestly not received a whole lot of help with the subject.

I recently received link after a few UPS issues and was delighted to unpackage it, install the software and drivers to my Laptop, install the Chip, and get to logging/tuning. I Installed the Drivers correctly. Checked the Cable. Installed the 2G Eprom Chip provided by ECMtuning, popped the ECU in the vehicle and test started it. Car started and purred. I turned the vehicle off, plugged up the OBD cable and hooked it to the Laptop. I then started the software, selected the correct port, and attempted to connect....Nothing. Failed to receive a response.

Here's what I have done so far and confirmed.

1 : Drivers installed correctly Per Thomas's verification of ECMtuning.
2 : OBDII ports all receiving the correct voltage and Ground. http://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/connectionproblem
3 : Wiring from OBDII port to ECU are all equal along the length of their travel.
4 : Pins on the ECU are snug as well as the wiring.
5 : Buzzed out the Tracers on the ECU board. All checked out between IC1 and IC2 in relation to the Eprom. http://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/buzzingout2gsocket
6 : Cable flickers as it should when plugging up to the Laptop port.
7 : Correct Com Port is selected when attempting to connect.

In frustration, I drove the car to a local pats store and had them pull the codes from the ECU (I have a code due to a missing solenoid that the PO deleted). The Scanner pulled the code almost instantly and with no trouble at all. I drove home, attempted to connect with Link again.. nothing.

I'm thinking I have a setting wrong but I've not gotten any other info on the matter from anyone over at ECMtuning. As I just waited 10 days for 3 day shipping via UPS I really don't feel like dealing with them again to send the cable back, have it tested, and sent back to me. No one in my area is running link so I have no way to test it. -_- so I'm hoping I just have a setting off.

Any input or advice would be helpful. And yes, the Chip is in correct (I've been driving the car) and yes the key has been in the 'On' position when attempted to connect. I'd be willing to allow someone to remote into my laptop to check the settings out. I'm getting frustrated that I just dropped cash on this, had to deal with UPS losing the package, and now I can't even use it. So someone, anyone, lend me a an educated hand?

Just for an idiot check, you turned the key to the on/ignition right?

Son of a! D; That's where I intended this to be. My apologies. I suppose during my frustration I clicked on the wrong damned tech section. Fffff...

Anyhow, it's listed in the post above that "Yes, the key is in the 'On' position." Scott. :p

Now, time to report myself to posting in the wrong section.

Maybe try uninstalling a re-install, and try the latest update link off the ecm site, I bought v3 lite back in october and recently upgraded to v3 full a few weeks back and the only way for it to work was to update the program off the site as I was unable to connect after upgrading. I'm not sure if it will work for you as you stated Thomas confirmed you had all current drivers...but its worth a shot

I remote connected to him and tried the following things:

- Uninstalled and reinstalled newest stable version.
- Reinstalled the drivers.
- Installed the newest early access version.
- Changed COM settings and checked for driver upgrades.
- Manually entered COM ports into the software.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when you plug into the OBD2 and the PC and have the car set to on, shouldn't the cable immediately recognize the chip and display it's information in the bottom right? It wasn't doing that, not sure if it does that only after a connection or not.

Either which way he kept receiving the response as if there was nothing connected to the cable. I think it is a bad cable.

Yes it is set to V3 2G in the configuration. Under the COM section in the device manager, you see SerialUSB listed...actually I have my cable right here, why didn't I think about this. One moment, I may have more to add.

Earlier today it would alternate between the 2 USB ports as COM11 and COM12. Now it continuously shows up as COM3 in both ports.

<< Mike is 'ramsacking' my laptop as I type.

Yeah, Together we've checked everything from the ECU traces to the Software.

Ok, I know this is a long shot but this happened to mine. My ECMlink would not connect and I exhausted all the possibilities and I found a blown cd player fuse in the engine bay, once that was changed I was able to connect. It doesn't make sense to me but I changed nothing else.

I once pulled the MPI fuse at the battery to disable the fuel injection while priming the oil pump and head after a complete head build. Afterwards, I couldn't figure out why ECMLink wouldn't connect. Turned out to be the MPI fuse. Reinstalled it and voila, it worked again! Check your fuses. Good luck.

Yeah, my first thought were my fuses....=/ But I can pull codes from the car, so my OBDII is functioning. I'll go over them all again today, and for the hell of it I'm trying a different laptop.

Tom somewhat agrees with the above. If I can pull codes, it should work, but he stated that it's always a possibility that there's still damage somewhere but unlikely considering how things have checked out.

He's next-daying me a Cable, so I'll have it tomorrow. Great damned customer service if you ask me. I know who I'm buying my next Eprom ECU from. ;3 So tomorrow I'll be able to plug up the new cable and pray it works. If it doesn't then I'll be returning the cable, keeping link, selling the GST, and picking up an AWD I've been scoping. I'll update everyone tomorrow.

Good luck Kei. Hope it works out for you.

Maybe there is a long womanly hair jammed in a connector pin LOL

Oh dear God I'm going to slaughter you.

...YOU put it in there, DIDN'T YOU?!

Got the new cable in today. It's not the cable. The Data-Communication ability of my ECU must be shot. Awesome. $400 and I can't even touch it until I fork out more money to get DSMlink running on a damned GST or get another car. Guess which I'm going with?

Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, this entire thing has been a nightmare, honestly. UPS loses the package. ECU/Voltages/Setup all checks out. New Cable sent - Doesn't Work.

I'm done with the car. All respect is gone. =/ If I can't find a decent 2G AWD this weekend I'm going to grab a 1G and calling it on 2Gs. This was the determining factor.

Oh well. OBDII, a sleek look, and more expensive parts are obviously not for me.
