ECMlink DSMLink not connecting (usb)

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

you first have to make sure that your com port is correct. Something that happins sometimes is if you use a serial cable, sometimes it doesn't transfer data fast enough and wont connect. So if you arent, just connect your adapter to the dsm connector itself....other than that just go to the forums...dsmlink.com/forums they are more than glad to help

I also believe that some adapters do not work correctly with the Link. On the forums you can check to see if your model is compatible.

Known Db9 usb-serial cables.

Everyone seems to go through "why won't my shit connect" problem at first. It's pretty simple. In your "device manager" see what comport the db9 cable is contoled by. Most likely it is (COM4).

Go into the C:\Program Files\DSMLink and open dsmlink.prefs file with notepad. Add the following line..

portIDForce=COM4

Or whatever COM# the db9 cable is using, Save and exit.. You can also change the default save/load locations of the .dat files whil you are in their... Hope that helps..

Why don't you have a username and password on the Dsmlink forums?

Please do not cut/paste information from the DSMLink support forums.

It simply aids those who have illegal copies.

You should have your username and password before you even get everything in the mail.

or you can send in your chip number, along with what you want your user name to be and they will hook it up

I had a Dynex from Best Buy and that was the problem, I bought the Keyspan and all is well. I also emailed my info to dsmlink and I got a username and password for the forumns.

Thanks

Ok but why didnt you have it done before? The reason I ask is because they send you the username and password before they even send the product. You should've had it already unless you have an illegal copy.

I will let the mods and admins decide if this should remain here but I see a few posts about DSMLink not connecting.

Other than scottsee's option here are 2 things one should know.

1- The Serial/USB adapter COM port should be set to 1 to function properly.

2- If you have Windows Media Centre, you will keep banging your head on the wall as it will sometimes work and sometimes not. MSCE has its perks :) Microsoft tells me that Media Centre although very advanced and compatible with msot anything, it does not particularly like port adapters. For some reason, it adds to the stream sometime rendering such adapters useless. As soon as I got rid of my MC and put my old trusty PRO back on my laptop, I've had 0 issues.

Hope this helps out.

And just as a side note, not to stir up aything bcause I despise piracy, but I purchased my Link through SlowBoy and had to wait to get my uname/pword for the forums until I received the product to provide the info they needed.

I purchased mine through Import Evolution, legally, and the guy I talked too never said anything regarding forumns or user name at all, so I just assumed that it was something I had to setup on my own but wasn't sure how.

I ended up having to use com 17 and com 1 wasn't even an option for me.

Same thing happened to me when I bought my DSMLINK from SBR, I had to wait to get my username and password. As for the com port, I just go through all of them til I find one that connects.
