Im doing a full rebuild on a 420a, my oil pump doesn't necessarily need to be replace, but the car has 170,000 on it so im replacing everything. I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with either of these pumps, its a very important part so i dont want to risk a cheap ebay pump ruining my engine

Well, its your oil pump, dont trust ebay, get a oem for peace of mind. I read a lot of posts of ebay stuff sure some things but an oil pump, isnt one to cheap out on. Way too much damage to your engine if this part prematurely fails.

thats why im a worried about it, i think im going to spend the extra $100 to get a mellings high flow

Don't go with ebay when it comes to maintenance, especially an oil pump. Shell out the extra cash and get an OEM piece. Remember the saying, the cheapest things almost always end up being the most expensive.

Just because it is on ebay doesn't mean it is some no-name, cheapo brand knockoff. They sell name brand stuff on eBay, too, and usually for cheaper than you can get elsewhere.

I've seen too many guys have trouble with TopLine oil pumps to even consider anything but OEM for my engine....and TopLine is actually a well-known name.

Perhaps their pumps would work great on a daily driver that never revs past 4k, but I wouldn't trust one.

I bought an oil pump off of ebay. The guy said it was a debaged OEM, wich is what the picture showed. When I got it it was a CHEAP debaged KNOCK OFF. The timming mark werent even good enough to tell if it was properly timed.

Pffft....why would anyone want to de-badge an OEM pump? It's not like it's visible once the timing cover's on, or something that you'd even want to "trick" someone into thinking it's smaller or less potent than it's labeled (think Sleeper turbos).

Well then if your gonna replace you should probably upgrade. I dont think i would get an ebay oil pump unless its an actual name brand pump. Its one of those things that are way too important to cheap out on... A hundred dollars is better than 1500 for a new motor...
