I just so happened to be on Ebay and thought about intake manifolds. I am going to be building myself a 2.3L stroker and thought "Heck, an aftermarket intake manifold would not only look cool, but I am sure it would help get some more air into the engine!". So I set off on a little search.

I came up with your normal JMFab and such, but then I found this;

DSM ECLIPSE GSX GST TALON TSI GALANT VR4 4G63 INTAKE MANIFOLD "STAINLESS STEEL" | eBay

Now my first impression was; "Oh look, another guy on Ebay selling wana-be intake manifolds. Oh how cute, they look like Magnus intakes.". But then I read his information and I wasn't so sure.

I was hoping some of you guys out there might know a little about this guy or his product. I mean, I am not going to spend close to $400 for an intake manifold that is junk especailly when I can get one for not too much more than that, made by a trusted company.

*A few other things I noticed. The welds look just like they do on the Ebay exhaust manifold I bought (no, I have no plans on using it). The holes that are supposed to be there for the injectors aren't even there! So this is supposed to be a bolt on part, yet there are no injector bungs? Really?*

Thanks!:thumb:

It doesn't look like a bad buy.If it worked. But I also see nothing as far as flow numbers..All the link said was that it added 15hp but also no dyno numbers were shown..

I would go with a proven afermarket company, that offer flow numbers and a dyno sheet..It may be twice the price but that's what those companies do R&D for..

MAP sells Weapon R IMs. I mean, if I was REALLY hurting to get one (which I'm not), on the cheap end, I could buy one of those. For $104.69 MORE though, a person could have a JMFab one.

JM Fabrications "Race" Intake Manifold (1g DSM) - Modern Automotive Performance

I'm just hoping someone has had some luck with this guy. It does not necessarily matter to me, but everyone could use an extra $100 to spend/save on an engine build; especially when they can easily hit the $2k mark.

Flow bench numbers talk more than cost or a hear-say. Anyone can make an intake manifold, it all depends on how well it will work. It looks like he copied a JMF street manifold.

I was looking at the same one once and had the same question, He said that there are other DSM'ers that have them maybe one of them on this site.

As long as it isn't made of super thin metal than it should be decent. I've had a few people bring cars to me with some of these cheaper intake manifolds and they are always cracked around the welds on the mounting flange.

Your injectors and fuel rail attach to the cylinder head, not the intake manifold.

I was thinking about this during school today. I could not remember where they were. I have had a 420a apart so many times I had gotten' used to the injectors being on the IM.

Thank you for correcting me on that.

Just bought one so I'll let you know haha.

Ok cool deal Josh. Let me know what the actual over-all quality is when you get it.

I wouldn't bother unless your planning on making big numbers, and then your gonna have to spend good money anyways.

Plenty of people have made 400+ on stock manifolds.

IDK if you know this but as my lowest numbers, I will be shooting for 400. I want to be well up into the 5-600 percentile. I know the stock ones work but, they aren't all that appealing either. If I'm taking to time to build and engine AND repaint the whole car, I'm going to go all out.

Had a buddy use one ended up cracking the welds on the runners. Just port the stock one.

If it is truelly stainless then it is very strong. Im not sure if you know much about metal and the properties if different metals, but schedile 10 stainless is thin yes but can also withstand the same or close to the same pressure at schedule 40 carbon steel or as most people know it as just good heavy steel. He said they were hand made and thats the only thing that would worry me. As very tig welding is alot more difficult than running a mig welder.

For the record..Josh isn't getting one..He's pulling your leg, yanking your chain..

I 'ought to kick his @$$! Josh, you can be expecting a strongly worded FB message! ROFL JK

Well, I got it and sold it. The welds were so trashy and the runners didnt even line up correctly. It was a complete waste of my time/money. Maybe they arent all like that but shit. I was pissed. Sorry I completly forgot about your thread -___-

It looked so amazing on the ad that I impulsively bought it. Never again.

I stand corrected..He bought one but it was crap..

I rcently had the same thing happen on an ebay part..Looked amazing in the pic, but when it got to my house..Nope..

Secondly, a schedule 40 SS pipe will hold the same pressure as a schedule 40 mild steel pipe. Schedule 10 is a pressure rating. So a schedule 40 PVC pipe would hold hold just as much pressure.

Stainless is weaker than mild steel, but it is a poorer conductor of heat, more corrosion resistant, and just looks better.

Third, the weld is only going to be as good as the welder. It doesn't matter what machine they use.

Ok well sch 40 pvc has a psi rating of 200 psi. And sch 40 carbon steel has a ratong of 2800 psi. Im a union welder. Come on now.

The sch size of the piping it self doesnt have something to.do with the psi rating. But not intierlly. The sch rating has more to do with the wall thickness of that pipe itself.

Yes. Shd rating is just tge wall thickness taken in to consideration of the material as well ofcourse.. but mostly means the wall thickness of the material whoch then changes the psu rating of the material. Just take for instence ahd 80 pvc if gray. Only becuase pvc can not handle much pressure they change what the plastic is made with to made it gray that way it is not still the white plastic we all know so there will not be a 3/4 inch wall thickness. Harder to explain threw here. Went to 5 yrs of schooling for all this. Like the attitude.
