On a 1G N/A I have pulled the head to fix bent valves do to a broken balance shaft belt. I pulled the head and have a week or so to wait on its replacement, so I'm wondering while I am waiting would it be helpful to pull the engine as it has been mostly disconnected already. I am thinking it might be easier to set the timing belt and what not. Might even do the balance shaft elimination if I had it out.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether it would be worth the effort to pull it or not? If so should I pull the engine and tranny together?

thanks

i wish i would have pulled the motor out when i did the trans becaus then i would have done the bshaft eliminator, timing belt, and other things. Now with it all together and running, im rather not inclined to replace that stuff just yet.

To do a timing belt, balance shaft belt, or head gasket, it's easy enough to do all that with the engine still in.

A BSE kit is also doable in-car but much harder, especially if your awd (which you aren't) because you have to pull the oil pan.

If you removed the engine, everything is much easier to do, but you do have the extra work of actually pulling it out.

Btw, I thought n/t's didn't have balance shafts?

If you have the time and tools to do it , then yes pulling the motor to do the balance shaft elimination
Will be easyer than doing it in the car. Its really up to u if u wanna do the extra work by pulling the engine out of the car.

I found it easier to just pull the whole motor out and do the timing belt, balance shalfts, ect. I never tried to do a timing job while the engine was in because it seems harder for some reason.

Why would you think that?
Both the 4G37 and the 4G63 have balance shafts.

On topic, it's much easier to do everything with the engine out.

For some reason I thought they didn't, just like they don't have oil squirters. My bad.
