I have a 1990 and I need to know how to tell if its a early or late model.

The reason I need to know is the stupid previous owner put a 91-94 ecu in my car and I dont think its working correctly so I want to get the correct ecu so I can swap them and get it socketed for linkv3

There is no difference in ECUs other than U.S. or Cali emissions between early 1990 and late 1990 models unless you are speaking of production dates and not model years. If that is the case, the switch occurred during the second third of June, 1990, when the 1991 model began production.

In the VIN: if it's an "LE" it began it's life in summer of 1988 to July of 1990 when the letters became "ME" for the 1991 year.

Another way is look at the lower left corner of the manufacturer sticker on the driver's side door pillar and you see three letters "MDH" = month, day and hour in the year and month that the vehicle was assembled-where that is labelled in the upper right of the sticker..

My Laser is an "LE", made in June of 1989 with the MDH of 061914
