Which one should I go with? DSMlink with eprom ecu or EcuFlash?
I'm a newbie at tuning and management. Can I get 2 step with EcuFlash?
They are basically the same thing right?
Also If I do any of those, I need to know if I can still pass smog.
Emissions over here in California are scaled so high.
I'm planning on getting a 16g turbo with supporting mods sometime in the future.

Cause it made me laugh, thats why!!!

Do you think it is the best?

yes, i do. i've owned v2.5, tuned a friends ecmlink v3, and use ecuflash for my 2g spyder because I prefer it.

I'm personally excited about tuning with the ceddy's bigmaps patch once the weather warms up again(its 20F right now!). I have some large jumps in my timing map that I want to smooth out.

its pretty obvious though, if you have a 98/99 with a 16g or bigger turbo with bigger injectors who isn't going to spend $214 to fully tune their car you can't even get a safc for that...

ECM Tuning can convert a non eprom ecu to a eprom, 1g and 2g!!! So no more looking for a eprom ecu:thumb:

This only does someone any good who HAS a non-EPROM ECU. This guy doesn't. He has the good 1999 Flash ECU. He would have to go out an BUY a non-EPROM ECU ($50-$75), and then pay to have it converted. By then he would have spent almost as much as the real 1995 EPROM ECU, by my calculation.

One of the biggest differences from what I've read so far is that with ECMlink you can tune on the fly unlike ECUflash. For the price difference though ECUFlash is the way to go.

aem stand alone ems. the only way to go. no need for those sensors that go bad, and you can set up just about anything on it

Good luck passing emissions with that. Evo's have 700 hp on the stock ECU, why mess with AEM? I've heard it's a PITA to deal with anyways.

It's -22`F here right now. I'd still be playing with my car if the roads weren't in hockey rink condition.

They've added live mapping to the Evo8/9 ECU's; maybe ceddy will add that at some point.

Since he has a 99, he should have a flashable ECU. I don't see any reason to not just reflash with ECUFlash, as he doesn't have to even screw with removing the ECU, just plug in a cable and start tuning. $189 for a openport 2.0 cable; $25 for Evoscan, good to go.

DSMlink isn't worth the headache when ECUflash will let you do the same tuning for alot cheaper. I would really recomend checking out Ceddy's mod page and the 98/99 ECU flash thread, and Jeffo has a really nice site set up at DSMChips.com for the first time tuner, and tuning equipment for good pricing.

To me the difference in the systems is like the comparing the iphone and other smart phones. Yes the other smart phones are able to do the same things that the iphone can do, but it takes more to do it on them. What set apple apart was the fact that thier phone was USER FRIENDLY and basically anyone could pick one up and start using it. ECMLINK is basically the iphone of tuning right now and with the release of ECMLINK V3 lite coming out I'm sure that more and more people will be running it. Just my thoughts....

For someone new to tuning, a chipped ECU would be the best route. I wouldn't recommend tuning Software like AEM or DSMLink to anyone who doesn't want to spend the money on having someone else tune the car. You can get a tune embedded into a chip based on the mods you have/plan to have, the only downfall is that it's generic and not fine tuned for your vehicle...

What if the OP wants to tune the car themselves? Everyone has to start somewhere, and ECMlink isn't very hard to learn, especially with the help the link forum provides.

AEM on the other had would probably not be very easy to jump in to.

I think the headache he was referring to was the eprom issue. If you have a 95' and it happens to have an eprom ecu you need to take it out of the car, send it off to be socketed and install the tuning module or chip and reinstall the ecu in your car. If you don't have a 95' you don't have an eprom so you spend weeks or months trying to track one down and pay 200-300 dollars for it.Then you send it to be socketed which is another 30 dollars or so. if your installing in a 97+ you have to swap the plug wires around to get the car to fire right.

98/99 already have a flash ecu. if your doing to in a 97 just plop the 98/99 ecu in and start tuning.

As far as ease of tunability with ecuflash, they are exactly the same. If you need help with analysis of logs then there are many people running evo 8 and 98/99 ecus that would be willing to help look at data.

well i had never tuned a car and i helped my buddy tune his 1g with dsm link v3 and it was VERY easy i am using ecu flash with rom raider in my wrx. witch by the looks of it is very similar set up and its not very hard either but i liked the dsm link set up better seemed easier to me
