Which one should I go with? DSMlink with eprom ecu or EcuFlash?
I'm a newbie at tuning and management. Can I get 2 step with EcuFlash?
They are basically the same thing right?
Also If I do any of those, I need to know if I can still pass smog.
Emissions over here in California are scaled so high.
I'm planning on getting a 16g turbo with supporting mods sometime in the future.

You should really check out the Ceddy Mod post in Tuning and Engine Management:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tuning-engine-management/347070-ceddymod-v1-ecuflash.html
With the proper xdf and a patched ROM you can have a 2-step, 3-step, antilag, and more.
Since you already have the 1999 Flash ECU in your car, the only real difference is going to be the price. To run DSMLink you need to find the rare 1995 EPROM ECU + DSMLink = ~$800+.
The Openport 2.0 cable + ECUFlash +EVOSCAN for datalogging = $202.

ECM Tuning can convert a non eprom ecu to a eprom, 1g and 2g!!! So no more looking for a eprom ecu:thumb:

aem stand alone ems. the only way to go. no need for those sensors that go bad, and you can set up just about anything on it

What sensors?? ECMTuning can pretty much do every thing that aem ems can!!

There are pros and cons to each of them.

The CeddyMod is much newer and doesn't have all the support (or the forums) that ECMlink has. It will also require a bit more knowledge/learning than link will as it's not necessarily plug and play (that I know of).

ECMlink is a great package, but will cost a good deal more than the software/cable to flash your ECU.

I have no experience with flashing ECU's with ECUflash, but it seems to be a good bang for your buck. I am also not sure of how the settings/options compare between the two packages. But I don't think you can go wrong with either!

you tune both systems with the load based tables.I've used both and am not committed to either but am using ecuflash with Ceddy's mods currently.

if your running a mitsubishi MAF or evo maf and plan on a moderate HP goal (300-350) your probably better with ecuflash. if you have a GM maf or want to run speed density and need support on getting everything setup go with ecmlink.

the most common things people change when they tune their cars is fuel/timing tables, injector size, rpm idle, knock sensitivity, launch, rev limit
both systems let you do these things.

ecuflash w/ ceddy mods does have the current advantage of having the highest resolution fuel/timing maps of any dsm ems though, you have to pay $25 extra for that though.

both seem great,
however ecmlink is just too pricey for me right now,
and iv read alot into ecuflash and that is what i plan on doing,

alot cheaper, with all the same tables, 2 steps, rev limit, and alot more goodies.
:D

DSMlink isn't worth the headache when ECUflash will let you do the same tuning for alot cheaper. I would really recomend checking out Ceddy's mod page and the 98/99 ECU flash thread, and Jeffo has a really nice site set up at DSMChips.com for the first time tuner, and tuning equipment for good pricing.

I have enough for now to tune with, but im going to get dsmlink and call it a day, pricey it all depends on whats pricey, for us, i like its features ill get that and ill never look back.

Lets say you get ecuflash, for 250 all together. ECMLink is 650 all together. After you done with eather one and want to go bigger (AEM Standalone). Think of tis way, that you can sell ECMLink for the same price, that you bought, and how much would you get for EcuFlash???!! so Selling ECMLink you already can get half money down for Standalone ;)

Neither is really "better" than the other... its personal preference and whatever is easier for you to work with. With that said there is more support out there for ECM Link. But I myself use the ECU Flash. With ECU Flash you have the capability of tuning other cars as well, STI's and EVO's are also supported with nothing additional to buy.

You're seriously recommending AEM EMS to a newbie at tuning and engine management?

but how much does this cost?
either way hes a newbie at tuning,
and with me being a newbie tuner too,
ECUflash has all of the same tuning maps, and alot of the goodies.

for a quarter of the cost,

also, if you ever buy a new car or want to upgrade, you can use the Openport 2.0 cable on different cars, a used cable would sell quick, just like a used ECMlink.

As a newbie i would start from ECMLink, because it way esier then messin wiith an ecu codes via ecuFlsash thats my o2

I say EcuFlash
I've being using it since the Ceddy Mods exist

EcuFlash couldn't be more plug and play
You just upload the rom to the ECU and there you go, a matter of seconds

Your car is already a '99 that has the flash port and everything needed for it
After you upgrade(i don't think there is any need) you could sell you OpenPort cable for just a little less you got it

I'm currently using Ceddy Speed Density patch
So yes i'm running speed density 24hr the 7 days of the week
It only cost me a $55 GM 3bar MAP sensor

And for the non believers...

Since When The 2g Non Eprom To Eprom Ecu Conversion Is Available? I Mean I Know It's Done On 1g's But I Am Looking On Their Site And It Doesn't Say Nothing About 2g's.:nono:

Someone Clear This Up Please.. OMG
