I just got dsmlink at a fairly good price and have big plans this winter with a motor but thats another story. Dsmlink seems very confusing and was wondering if I could mess around with it to get the feel on a unmodded motor because not to worried if I mess anything up because I'm dropping a new one in this winter what do you guys think of that?

Nice plus Im really good with computers. Were can I find some reading?

Hey wait a second you live like 1h 30 min from me. I spend a lot of time in havoner..

Being good with computers has nothing to do with DSMlink. I consider myself pretty good with computers, but DSMlink has a steep learning curve. Granted, it's not as hard as other engine management systems, but it will take some time to learn.

Here's some good reading material to start you off with:

That I do! Nice to hear from a local DSMer :thumb:

Well, I might as well jump in and make this a Central PA DSMLink thread. :)

DSMLink is an excellent choice regardless of your level of mods. You'll be very happy with your purchase. Once you get it installed, let Brian and I know and we'll have a tuning party. I'll bring the beer!

Yea I'm def in on that. Do any you guys know anyone around here that will mandrel bend?

Well im going to have to finish the motor before I start tuning it but ill def come watch someone else do it so I can learn.

When you say wb you mean wide band right. Im going to concentrate on building the other motor then when its time to buy gauges thats the first one im going to get.I just want to get the feel of dsmlink.

WB does indeed stand for wideband O2 sensor. You also don't absolutely need a built motor to utilize DSMLink, as there are already tons of people running engines with the stock internals making 400+ whp.

Then again I'm sure they also all have built blocks waiting to go in as well.

Yea I know I don't need to build a motor but since I have an automatic fwd I want to shoot for hp numbers over 1/4 mile times I want to shoot for 500hp and for that I want to build a motor from the bottom up. I wasn't going to buy dsmlink until the motor was done but I got it for real cheap. So I had to buy.

Not buying it with a gauge. It's not too useful IMO except MAYBE to show a sudden lean spike. How often are you going to be able to make a pull while looking at your boost gauge, knock MIL, AND wideband data, memorize all of them relative to RPM, and not drive yourself into a ditch?

Many people buy a MAP sensor and a wideband with the sole purpose of wiring them into the ECU so DSMLink can log it. Or maybe, that's just me.

I see so it hooks up threw wiring it into the ecu.

Dsmlink is a great tool. It DOES NOT have a steep learning curve. And you DO NOT need a built engine to make 500whp. I just crack up anymore when people throw out horsepower numbers they would like to shoot for. Most people have never even been in a car that made over 250whp. V8 or not.

My car on a bone stock junk yard engine made 510fwhp. Needless to say, 500whp and FWD scared EVERYONE of my friends that rode in the car. Heck even my 450whp 1G scarred most people. I have another project that everyone gets to ride in and it is in the neighborhood of 630whp. No one asks for a second ride in that car.

350+whp is more than enough for most folks. Read the wiki, read the user guide, review the defualt data logs in the software. It is super easy to go crazy with.

Well to be honest im going with a gt35r turbo and all supporting mods if I hit 500hp great but say I run short with like 450 thats fine to but see if I don't set a goal I wont achieve it and have no plan and waste money. I don't know why everyone is saying that I don't need to build a motor I want to plus the condition of my other one isnt to good. I like learning about dsms. The way I look at it I could pay 1000 for a 20g but 1200 for a gt35r and if im gonna go im gonna go big.Unless i find a 20g td05 for cheap because they dont require a external wastegate so save a few buck then Ill go there but otherwise I want to go big.
