I personally am looking to do some weight reduction while retaining the quiet/smooth ride, and still having a spare so I can go on the highway without getting flatbedded home.

heres some of my ideas, just normal of course.

CF hood
Ditch all of my stereo and just get upgraded 6x9, 5.25, and 3.5's hooked to the factory amp/deck.
CF Hatch<<<Anyone make one for us?
CF Spoiler<<Anyone make it?
Dimple Drilled/Slotted Rotors

What else is there? I dont wanna tear out all the sound deadening or the spare tire.

um yea ... even removing 200 lbs won't give you a noticeable gain in power.
That's because your power doesn't increase from simply removing weight, smart guy. :thumb:

But seriously, have you ever goosed your car with a heavy passenger in it? And you can't tell the difference?

Weight loss 101. In a DSM it isnt the interior. Its the front and rear bumper re-bars (under the fascias) The spare tire, jack, hood, hatch, undercoating, sound deadening. Dont look for 10 places to loose an pound. Look for 16 places to loose an ounce. It works. Go ask your local NHRA A/Stock Racer. The first on the list for them is undercoating, its a bi*** to get off but its 50 LBS +. :thumb:

Does anyone sell a carbon fiber/fiberglass/whatever hatch for our cars?
My sound deadening, spare tire and jack are gone.

And I know about the bumpers and hood.
A carbon fiber hood is in the plans and also aluminium Dejon Tool bumper supports
Bumpers drop a total of around 100lbs!!!!!
hood should be like 35lbs drop.

200lbs makes a good differance...........the lighter the car the easier it is on tranny, axles, brakes, etc. Lee

I have nothing behind the rear seats, manual steering, no a/c, no cruise control, no sound deadening, no padding in the carpet, no heat( the heater core, evaporator, and fan weight alot. I bet 40 or 50lbs. mine is a daily driver, but just in the summer so I could lose the heat. I didn't do all of this at once, but I guarentee my car is faster because of this. My engine is almost done with the balance shafts removed, and an act flywheel. All of my seatbelt are completey gone, just 4 point harnesses. seatbelts are alot of weight as well. prostreetonline makes carbon fiber hatches to answer someones question as well.

Delete the abs
Go to Canadian belts instead of harnesses
Keep the lightweight battery underhood, the relocation would add more weight in wiring, and you'd lose most of the save (I located mine on the cross member in front of the fire wall).
Lose all exhaust heat shields (even underbody)
Lose the egr system, and all extra vacuum lines
Toss the cruise control
Delete the rear wiper, and all related parts
Get a fiberglass hatch if you like
Get rid of engine lifiting brackets (make aluminum one in place of the one on the throttle body), then get rid of the bracket under the intake manifold (the intake needs at least one of those brackets, that's why you make the aluminum one, 2 holes and 2 small bends)
Port your cast exhaust peices, shave the outsides down (if you like being anal like me)
Get rid of the power windows/locks
Power steering delete is another option

Those are most of the ones off the top of my head, with it being a daily driver, I'd stronly avoid losing the bumpers.

A place sells Carbon fiber panels but only for a 2g talon.

www.squidskins.com

edit: Their is site is being revemaped so 3/4 of the links don't work.

Buschur sells fiberglass hatches. He takes orders until he has enough buyers, then has them run. There's a shop in socal that's doing c/f hatches now as well. I don't remember their name though. The real savings in the hatch though is the glass, there really isn't that much metal there.

Full tank of gas also adds a lot of wieght. A gallon of gas wieghs around 8 pounds , add all that up and it can add a 100lb of uncessary wieght. Run 1/4 tank when possible.

After you've pulled the seat, carpet, water bottle, fit the small battery, yada yada, and you REALLY get serious about it....

Just look at it this way; $100 per pound.

Don't belive me huh? Ok, you'll see soon enough....LOL
Get in there and get 'er done!

okay I am thinking about cutting some weight out of my car.. I still want all the trime pieces in place because all of it being gone looks tacky.. I am going to post some ideas I had. add some if you think of them.

Strip all tar mat from floor
remove padding from carpet
remove sound deadning from firewall
trim/remove un-needed bracing.
remove dash board and trim unneeded material from dash
lighten seats if possible.

basically I dont have much cash to throw around so free stuff is good..

for the exterior.. I am negating on the A/C I know it wuld save a tone of weight, but there are times I want it.. manual steering is not a option.

Go ahead and remove the rear seats all together- they're barely functional as is. Just get some matching carpet and cover up the area. Spare tire and the over-large tire well cover (remove all together or trim down). Rear windshield wiper and spray bottle.... that's all that I can really think of right now if you want to keep everything still really all there....

You could also look into race seats- god knows most of them are lighter than most stockers.

If you can get some decent 4 or 5 point harnesses you can eliminate the seatbelts.

yeah I forgot to mention... the spare and stuff is gone so is the washer bottle.. and I cut the mount out of the well.

I knwo the road noise will be high..... but the car is loud how it is..

and 300 lbs.. could be quite a bit of difference in performance.. I really do not expect to be able to cut that much out total. I am just trying to cut the land barge down a lil bit.. Where the hell did they stuff 3,000+ lbs in this caar?!?!?

Relocating the battery to the hatch does not save weight....I ended up adding at least 20lbs. in wiring and relays and such. Race seats weigh around 20lbs. but once you add the mounting brackets it isn't much of a savings at all.

The stock 2G Leather power seat weighs in at over 80 lbs.

What kind of "race seats" weigh 20 lbs, and how are brackets going to weigh anything more than 5 lbs?

LOL. The base mount alone weighs nearly 15 lbs. Add in brackets and sliders and you're at well over 20 lbs. I love it when people on the internet make shit up.
