I personally am looking to do some weight reduction while retaining the quiet/smooth ride, and still having a spare so I can go on the highway without getting flatbedded home.

heres some of my ideas, just normal of course.

CF hood
Ditch all of my stereo and just get upgraded 6x9, 5.25, and 3.5's hooked to the factory amp/deck.
CF Hatch<<<Anyone make one for us?
CF Spoiler<<Anyone make it?
Dimple Drilled/Slotted Rotors

What else is there? I dont wanna tear out all the sound deadening or the spare tire.

honestly, sound detening is a lot of weight, in the wheel wells and all over the floor get that out and youll save 75 -100

My car weighs 2810 with only a half a tank of gas.

My secret:

No spare tire, no jack, no lug wrench
No trunklid
Trunk floor cover replaced with lighter lexan
No back seat
No rear seat belts
No sound deadening material (inside the car)
No carpet padding
No Alarm
No factory stereo (JVC deck and door speakers)
No A/C (even the control box inside the car)
No cruise control

Thats about it.

remove ac, power steering, remove all interior accpet the needs (dash, shifter, steering wheel and front seats), roof paneling removed, along with trunk liner, spare tire crap, windshield wipers and reservoirs, all unnecessary wiring, radio, ac controller, glove box, and cut out all brackets after carpeting is removed.
you can also replace the heavy hood with a carbon fiber one, replace windows with Lexan (illegal). remove stereo speakers and wiring. relocate battery to the trunk, pepboys sells the battery boxes to relocate it to the trunk safely. obviously all floor mats, sun visors, power door locks and windows and mirrors. remove the motor for the antenna and rear windshield wiper. if you have leather get rid of that most definetly.
is it gonna be a race car or street driven?

Every piece of sound deadning, fire wall to hatch is like fourteen lbs

The sound dampening material is the most work for the least gains and the most annoyance.....

Just pull the OE seat belts and retractors... Maybe get racing seats... But the most weight you can drop easily is the seat belts...

Wow I want a fiberglass hatch. How much does the stock one weigh? With and without glass? How much does the hatch glass weigh?

I just got my car weighed and it came in at 2876lbs with 1/4 tank of gas.

I hve a CF hood, no rear windshiedl wipers, no rear resevoir, no spoiler, shaved door kit, no antenna, no spare, or tools, and some other odds and ends.

Not sure if this helps anyone, but just thought I would put my weight in there for anyone

Yes, but that 18.18 pounds is specifically for THAT Civic. Divide the power of a DSM with its weight and you will get a different power to weight. As pointed out, no extra power will be gained, but the motor will pull the weight easier. Old rule of thumb, every 100 pounds you remove in weight will drop your 1/4 mile time by roughly .1 second. All things being equal. :thumb:

Don't forget about removing cruise control. I don't think anyone mentioned that yet. Also, you could get a dry cell battery and relocate it to the rear of the car. AWD front engine cars are a bi*** to get 50/50, but the best of luck to you!

Ok just a FYI...If you plan on taking the tar out from under your carpet. Better do it on a semi warm day and have plenty of time on your hands. Because this is a job..LOL Ive done it on two DSMs and each took all day. Ie: as you scrap throw it in a plastic bag. That way when you are done you can weigh all your hard work. Also the balance shaft removal correct me if Im worng will remove like 5 lbs of rotating weight there. :thumb:

if you take out all the deadening material will you notice that much of a difference in drive comfort? i was thinkin of doing this but if my car was annoying as helll to drrive b/c its a daily driver then i dont want to try. what do you poeple think who have done it?>

If you can handle the road noise then go for it. I don't think it is really worth it for a daily driver. If you are looking to cut EVERY corner then do it. If you are not worried about a few lbs. here and there, than this is not the thing for you. It is louder than normal, just not mind numbing. If your exhaust is loud, then the road shouldn't be that bad.

The weight would only help you from 0 mph to 80 mph after that it is more wind resistance that you need to overcome.

hey guys,

I was reading through and noticed no one ever mentioned light weight wheels and lighter brake systems. Reducing the unsprung weight has many benefits to go along with an overall lighter weight.

I've removed 90% of the sound deadening in my daily driver only because the previous owner had already gotten rid of half of it. You do notice more road noise, but I kinda like it. I know this sounds odd, but it seems like you hear more communications about what the car is doing. I also had to drive a cheap crappy car for about 6 months before I got my latest dsm and it had just as much if not more road noise so I'm used to it.

where can i get a light weight break system. front and backs. the only kits ive seen are for front and dont say anything about being light weight

I'm not sure which are lighter and by how much but there are some systems where the rotors are larger and weigh less or the same as stockers. If you really want to spend some dough you could get two piece rotors. Some calipers are also lighter than our stockers and provide more clamping force (i.e. more piston/pad area or more pistons in general). I've also heard that switching from a floating caliper set up to a fixed caliper set up is lighter as well. Please anyone feel free to correct/add to/comment on my statements. I'm by no means an expert but trying to share some info. As far as companines who make big brake kits there's Baer, and Stop Tech I believe.

ive looked at stop tech but hey only show a front break kit. do you think they make a rear for our cars too?

The best thing to remove for weight reduction?

Complete a/c system is gone
Back seats/spare tire gone
cf hood/mirrors/wing

I want to remove as much as I can without the interior looking like sh1t (missing pannels ect.
