I've think I've determined that I need this part #... MD719710. But since I replaced my tranny with a used one shipped to me a number of years ago I'm unsure if it's right after my experience with Autoparts store. Advance Auto gave me the wrong one. it was meant for a 2.205 bore. I need the one meant for 2.126 bore. They can't seem to be helpful and my local parts store says they can get one shipped in, but won't garuntee it'll actually get here becuase it has to travel to many destinations before it'll arrive, and besides it doesn't seem like they can see what it's size is either without having it in their hands.

Is there anyway for me to verify this part# will fit the 2.126 bore before I have it shipped in and find out it's the wrong one again.

Car is 1990 GSX Manual... w/ a replaced tranny. Will a code from the tranny help verify. I'll have to look for it when I get home if it will.

W5M33 is the code. which gives me some comfort that I'll get the right part as it's the same code on my old tranny. Only thing better would be a documentation on the diameters. Unfortunately this part will be the one thing keeping my car off the road after 3+ years of sitting in my garage. Apparently the chain store's databases are off a bit. But then even when I go through jnz's catalog online I get nothing for axle seals on a 90. go to 91 or 92 and you get ones for 91-94.WTF Seems anything with a 90 is just a bit harder to find. :rolleyes: Oh well... off I go to order. Thanks for the responses... I think I should get the right part and not be wasting 5 bucks +shipping. Sucks I can't seem to source this locally.

Thats the code molded into the outer cover. There's a sticker on my old tranny that has more numbers but no such luck on this one as there's nothing there but the sticky material from the sticker.

I found these codes on galantvr4.org, look at yours again and match numbers/letters to make sure you know the year it was made

w5m332 means they are for turbo AWD 4g63 powered 1G, GVR4 and evo 1-3 (don't know about evo iv and beyond, anyone?).

nq -> is for the GVR4 (US and JDM)
np -> if the the US 1G and some 2G cars (up to 96; in '97 MMC switched from np to mu for the 2G)
c50ph -> is the switchable tranny (2wd/4wd)
c51ph -> if for the 88-89 JDM VR4 (early GVR4s) and select foreign market (a specimen was reported in Australia for example) GVR4s

All of the above are compatible with the GVR4 3 bolt and the 1G 4 bolt rear diffs.

wq -> is for the GVR4 RS and the evo1
evo2 and evo3 -> trannies each have letters that are different from all of the above and from one another.

The wq and evo2 and evo3 trannies DO NOT work with the US GVR4 3 bolt nor the US 1G 4 bolt rear diffs. The above data was gathered from multiple lists over a period of two years. I have found no exceptions to date.

PS -- As an FYI there are some wierd ones, for which I cannot comment about their compatibility with US cars. I'd stay away from these. They are:

nr -> unknown
f5m332sp -> unknown
w5m33?nn -> unknown
w5m33?mn -> unknown

W5M31 is a non turbo galant gsx

well I can't find anything with those combinations on my old tranny.

On my old tranny...
Sticker says BJR5541-NPZS
Bell housing has stamped code of 4A3CT64U7LE095522

On the one in my car
Sticker says... Where'd my sticker go?
Bell housing has stamped code of ... Uh oh. No stamped numbers.
OMG Anybody looking for a stolen tranny? Actually I think it's one of those from overseas where they automatically replace/junk them after 30-40K or something.

Any place else to see codes?
