So I'm putting my car back together after the clutch job, and everything's back on (except wheels) and I start the car while it's still up on stands and go through the gears, my friend noticed that my drivers side axle isn't spinning

I shut the car off and spun it by hand but it only moves the passenger side axle about 1/4" in each direction, so I pulled the axle out (dripping trans fluid everywhere) and popped it back in and still same thing.

I read about awd's having an open diff but I'm not very knowledgeable about transmissions yet and I'm not sure if this is suppose to be like this or not?

Was the car in gear when you tried spinning the wheel by hand? With the car in the air and transmission in gear, when you spin one tire by hand the other tire should spin the opposite direction, if not you have a problem.

No it was in neutral, I'll try it in gear today. I didn't even think about this since it wasn't moving with the car on and in gear. Big scare but it looks like everything's going to be ok. Thanks guys.
