The other day i drove my car into our hangar, washed it and did some work on it. The hangar is heated so i figured the car would be dry enough to take it outside and not freeze. I went over to a friends house and parked it outside, went to leave a few hours later and the locks were completely frozen.

We tried to use that little spray bottle of de-ice stuff, but it didnt work, so while i was inside trying to find a hair dryer one of my friends went out with a turkey baster full of warm water. Needless to say the ice was gone and i could drive home.

The next morning i went to unlock my car and the key wouldnt go in all the way, figured it was ice so gave it a slight shove and the whole lock cylinder slid backwards and almost into the door.

I took the door trim apart, took the clip off and put the lock cylinder back into position and put the clip back on. It still slid back a little bit but i could get the key in and unlock it. After work today i went to unlock my car the damn lock cylinder slid back into the door again.

I have manual locks, the passenger side lock doesnt even work from the outside, you can put the key in but it wont turn. I dont really want to leave my car unlocked all the time, and i have no idea what to do about it. sorry for the long post but just thought id let ya know what has already been done.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Take it apart again and take a good look at the clip and the housing where the lock cylinder goes. Maybe you just didn't get the clip on correctly or maybe you have broken something back there not allowing the clip to stay put. Good luck.:thumb:

i did this to mine, super glue works wonders, 6 months and holding strong.

well i cant see the housing, its inside the door behind the window glass, i can barley get my hand in there to put it back in. Would buying a new outside door handle solve this? Im just lost at this point hahah

It's nice to be able to unlock either door.

Hu? :idontknow: remove the interior door pannel and fix it. You will have to do that anyways if you get a new handle.

Yeah, I think that an outside door handle would fix you up, because that is what holds the lock cylinder into position and that's probably what is broken.

hmm do you mean the door trim, or the actual metal door frame like piece? I thought about removing that, but i was outside while removing the trim and it was cold as heck so i just wanted to finish up and get back inside.

420a-t : where did you apply the super glue?

Well I'm trying to remember (cause its been a couple years) but I didn't have any problem reaching the lock with the plastic panel off. Do you have the window rolled up? Post a pic cause I'm pretty sure you can reach it no problem and I am confused as to why its an issue. You can't take the "metal door frame like piece" off. Should look like the last picture in this...http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...-installing-new-power-door-lock-motor-2g.html

Shake: well i can reach it alright, but like in one of the pictures in that link you posted theres a huge nut that goes threw the glass that is right in front of the lock cylinder. So that makes it hard to get the door handle off, or to really do anything with the cylinder.

DSM1G: yes there is a clip there, and i have taken it out and reinstalled it. It helped a little but the problem happened again.

I think im just going to throw some JP Weld in the lock cylinder housing and hope it dries well with this cold weather and holds everything in place. Ill let you all know how it works out.
