Sorry to hear about your family’s loss. It causes a shift in priorities, for sure.

You give other members encouragement so please consider this ours to you.

No one here is pressuring you to complete your build. Although you’re anxious for some turbo therapy, catching the details as you go will result in longevity and reliability of your car.

Thank y’all, I really appreciate it because that great advice.

Although sometimes I have to remind myself that all these things don’t need to be PERFECT, but they always need to be done RIGHT.

Sorry to hear, brother. If you need a break you know what city I live in. Spend a weekend here and we’ll hang.

Otherwise, take your time. Process the grief, cars and material stuff can wait. Hope you feel better soon man.

A very unexpected and extremely tragic loss in my family ruined my summer. The only reason I’m making a post here is because I got a box from a supporting vendor today, and I’m really glad to have these pieces. My little one’s school start date was delayed to next month, but maybe I will get some garage time in then. This order should get me to a point that I can either start a new list or get the engine stabbed in. This weighted shift knob feels super heavy, I love it!Thanks for stopping by!View attachment 705698

Bummer, that sucks, man. Take it one day at a time, and when you're ready, you'll know. Nice to have you here on the forums!

Rob

Merry Christmas fellas.

God I need a garage.
It’s nice to have but it’s not necessary. You get more done on your car without one than I do with one!

I am not sure it was the most responsible way to spend my money considering how much time I (don’t) get to spend out here, and how many more important things got put on hold for a couple years that are turning into emergency priorities now. My house needs a roof bad and I’m really worried about what they will find when they rip up the old one.

It is always nice to be reminded that while I am complaining that I wish I had lights and a lift out here, someone else wishes they had the building. It is a blessing to be able to store all this stuff without it being in the way of our daily life.

It's not fun working in the snow I can tell you that much. It's been in the 30s so not to bad at least in December. I used to do engine swaps and what not in the snow which sucked so I know how you feel or maybe I don't.

I feel your pain, just had to put a roof on and fence replacement last year. Need new pool cage now, it never ends.

Thank you for the kind words. I definitely try.

But man, I grew up with having unfettered access to a shop w/ lifts and air tools. Not having that is a struggle to say the least. I honestly think I'd be done by now if I had an actual garage with space and sealed off from the elements. There were so many days that I just physically couldn't go outside and work on the car for longer than a few minutes. It got 105-106* this summer with 80+% humidity. It's like insta-heatstroke or dehydration because your sweat won't evaporate but you'll just keep sweating to try to cool the body down.

But, I wouldn't look to past mistakes and question why. Doesn't do any good for the now, and honestly only makes you feel worse. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say. Best to focus on now and the future. This is advice directed at myself as well!

I feel you on the roof though. I'm probably gonna have to have a part of my ceiling replaced. Getting a nice dark spot forming in one of the bedroom's ceiling that are directly underneath the vent for the roof.

Another update with no progress so feel free to skip to the end.

I love these cars. They remind me of an easier time of life. That feeling of freedom when you get your first set of keys. When cars were built with performance in mind, and looks that still hold up to this day 30+ years later. Hanging out with friends, wrenching til 4 AM on a school night. Dad still around to give me advice, whether or not I asked for it. New music was banger after banger and I couldn’t wait to get to the CD store on Tuesdays.

The longer this one sits, I feel selfish for holding onto it. Someone else could give it the attention it deserves. I’m coming to terms with the realization that I may never have the time, energy, or if I’m being honest with myself, money, to get this car back on the road.

Since I’ve been driving the Honda Fit, I’ve lost my main “excuse” for buying the DSM in the first place. I don’t need a smaller more fuel efficient vehicle anymore.

I’m not sure what the next steps are yet, but I’m leaning towards letting this project go if I can find a buyer. I have collected lots of great rare and valuable parts over these last few years. I don’t want to part it out, if I had time to do that, I would just put it back together.

Just got caught up on your progress, was hoping to see it completed. Funny thing about being a DSM owner, you are for life! I had a 1990 and 1991 tsi awd in the early 2000s and now have a 1992 tsi awd nearly 25 years later. I've also decided during this time that no matter what happens I'm never selling this 1992.

Regardless if you keep or decide to sell you'll still have some memories of that time.

I honestly love the honda fit. I almost bought one, but sadly that would have taken the eclipses spot which I didn't want. To me these cars are a time machine and the memories roll in when I drive one of mine. I feel as I get older the more attached I get. I'd like my kids to experience these awesome timeless classics when they get older. That's my excuse to hang on to what I have. If I lived closer to anyone that needed a hand I'd most definitely help out. I don't like expressing my opinion because anyone can do whatever they want with their stuff. I just hope it goes to the right home, one wrong home and it could see another junkyard near you.

Thanks Jesse. I keep telling myself I’m going to prioritize a day during the spring or summer time for the car. I think one day with it would really recharge my desire to finish it.

If you are a disciplined person, you just need a little motivation to get started - your discipline will get you the rest of the way. I find a calendar date for some event very motivational. I also find avoiding other tasks a good motivation as well - so I'm always trying to come up with things to avoid.

One hundred percent agree. Once you get moving and see progress you become more motivated.

Since ive taken over working on this car and not half as disciplined as Id love to be, Ive been using my friend as a way to stay motivated to get it back on the road. He owns his own business doing car audio and remotes starts etc so he always has a couple of cars hes working on. He sends me pictures throughout the day, then he started asking me what I was working on so and I cant show him code and tech designs that hes not gonna understand, so it kept me working on the car consistently so id have something to show and now ive started a build thread so there is some incentive to have a "look at what i did" moment. One of my other friends use to send picture of house projects to all of us to keep himself motivated so that it becomes a competition between us. So if youre trying to stay motivated, theres ways to do it, just gotta get creative with it.

Ive tried leaving DSMs after the accident with DSM #2 and i just felt naked and off until i ended up with #3. Worst of all, there will always be this thread that sticks out to me from the old ChicagoDSM message boards where a guy sold his heavily modded GSX and ran into the kid 8 months later and it had some goofy body kit and damaged from 1 or more accidents. Dont remember the guy but remember the car and it was something to envy as he would burn me down the highway on the rare occurrence that id run into him on the way home from work. he wished he never sold it. So now i cant imagine letting this car go. I cant say i wouldn't stalk the new owner if i did. 😅🤨
