1995 Eclipse TURBO Update

This is his original post for 4k with all the mods done. Another post came up two days ago but now for 2500 and claiming his car walked. The only thing I know about crankwalk is that it rarely, if ever happens. Is it possible to have an idea if it walked or not just by reading the post?

Without actually checking it for yourself there is no way to know for sure. Either way, that engine sounds like it needs some work. Not $200 like he says, cause you can't just slap in some new bearings and maybe a rod() and expect it to not happen again. I would avoid that car unless you can get it for 1000 or less.

Can't know for sure from just reading the post. Seen many people here say "crankwalk" when it was something completly different.

I would have to guess with the mileage on it after the build, and him saying it needs a rod. That he suffers rod knock and not crank walk.

But it still needs to be checked for both. Either one, the engine needs to come out and apart, cleaned and fix what is broken.

1) Is it possible to determine if the crank walked by dropping the oil pan and visually inspecting the crank/bearings?
2) Front-to-back (in relation to engine, not the car) allowable crankshaft movement is 0.007", right?
3) Will it be safe to ask the seller for a video of the car running or will it be too risky since it might completly destroy the motor?
4) Is it possible to "hear" crankwalk (from a video)?

Give me a break. There are folks on this site who attempt to diagnose crankwalk on the car they're driving without ever opening the hood or crawling underneath simply because the clutch fails to work on them one day...there's no way in HELL we can tell you what's going on inside an engine by reading a listing.

No need to drop the pan to check for crank walk....

Drop the fan belts and pull the balancer off, set up a dial indicator and "zero" it out

More than .003 and less than .010 is what you want. This one had .050 endplay

If the engine has truly walked, a good part of it will be junk any way, and yes you may hear a clunk if it is bad enough
