Good evening everyone,
I recently purchased a set of forged connecting rods, but I accidentally ordered them with a 22mm wrist pin bore. My pistons actually require a 21mm pin diameter.
I’m wondering if I can correct this mismatch by using aftermarket connecting rod bushings. If so, would installing a bushing with an inner diameter of 21mm and an outer diameter of 22mm solve the issue?
Specifically, would a bushing like the BC8701 be the right fit for this application?
Any guidance from experienced engine builders would be greatly appreciated. I’d also like to know if installing the new bushings—given the width difference (from 1.117" to 1.03")—could cause a dangerous lateral (axial) clearance. Thanks in advance for your time!

In your case, what you would need to think first is about the OD, not the ID. From 22mm to 21mm, you can't probably use those specific BC8701 bushings as you plan since probably the OD of BC8701 wouldn't be large enough to press fit into the rods that are machined for 22mm ID bushing.
Considering the money to modify the small end of your rods and buy bushings, just sell the 22mm small end rods you have and buy another set with 21mm small end would be easier and probably cheaper. Just my opinion though.
Or for some reason if you would want to modify the rod you have instead of buying another set of rods, you should ask a local machine shop that can repair rods. Usually they have more variety for bushings and they may be able to machine and fabricate bushings to fit with your rods.
