You should have rotated the motor so that the dowel pins on the cam gears were at the 12 o'clock position BEFORE removing the timing belt. It's hard to tell how things are positioned from that picture. Maybe another picture showing both cam gears a bit clearer. How do the marks on the crank, oil pump, front b-shaft look?
Agreed, you have sorta fubarred yourself. If I were you I would pull the cam caps/ cams rotate the crank to TDC and then reinstall the cams with the dowels at 12 o'clock to avoid bending anything up.
From the picture, the timing belt is still on.
WTF You shouldn't need to remove the cam caps/cams at all.
Check out this post on how to check your timing:

If you can't get the timing marks lined up horizontally (then should also line up with the valve cover gasket if you look past the marks) with the dowel pins at 12 o'clock, then your timing is off and you'll have to reset everything.
And if you want another opinion, take a horizontal shot of your cam gears with the marks lined up in the middle, the dowel pins at 12 o'clock, and include both of the cam gears completely in the picture.
From the picture, the timing belt is still on.

Yup, your right my fault. Didn't think that one through before I typed. Wow and I really missed the timing belt that in the picture. Excuse my stupidity.
Damn, you're absolutely right.
