My check engine light came on and I just got this car after it sitting for about two years.

I haven't done anything besides change the oil about two weeks ago. I was wondering if there were any common problems with this car that might lead to that. It's a 97 Eclipse GSX.

That is not enough information for us to help. What is the car doing? Do you know the code? Do you have any history of the car? Is it modified? If you don't have the code yet get it so we at least know that much.
What is your mechanical and/or electrical skill set?

The car is running fine, I do not know the code, the car used to be used as a company car for a pressure washing company. When my brother bought it he put a new exhaust on then he had to leave for about two years. I'm just getting into cars and this is my first one. I have a feeling it's just a bad sensor since it's a 20 year old car but as soon as I get the code I will let you know.

FYI - If you don't know the maintenance on your timing belt you should do this & put a new one on with all the timing belt associated parts, pulleys, OEM tensioner only, & water pump while it's easy to get to. Several supporting vendors (at the bottom of the page) sell timing belt kits with everything.
