OVERHEATING? The issues and their solutions have remained the same- either you don't have enough cool air reaching the rad, there's a cooling system obstruction which is preventing coolant from circulating, or your head gasket has failed and is allowing coolant to be consumed or pushed away from the engine.

Discuss all possible overheating problems and solutions here.

OK,
I just left my house to go over to my GF's,and happen to look down and see my needle right before the red mark. This just happened out of nowhere. I stop the car as quickly as i can, and pour in some coolant(Coolant a little low). Still same thing. Welp im in the middle of the road, and HAD to get it home. Im only 5 min from my house. I decided to try and make it(I really had no other choice). Welp I drive no faster than 20mph, and the temp needle is BARELY into the red the whole way.And occasionaly to the left of it. Am I ok?? Do ya think any damage was done?? And im thinking either thermostat, or water pump. For each of those, whats a round about $$ figure to get replaced?? Any info you have would be GREATLY appreciated!

So here is my deal. I just fixed an oil leak that has been haunting me for the past 3 weeks, and when I take the car out for a final joy spin on the highway I notice my temp in ecmlink says 226. Awesome right. Well anyways, I have a fmic, no a/c and nothing in between the radiator and fmic. 180 degree thermostat, which i just put in today because I figured it was that. I have ran my stock passenger side fan for over a good 2 years now with no issues. When I'm at idle or under 40 mph everything is fine, temps tend to say around 200. But when I go onto the highway is when things start to get interesting. I can drive on the highway for a bit while i watch the temp go up. Its not very fast, however fast enough. And I just flushed out the system today and added new coolant. And I tested the cap, and it let go at around 13 psi, which is stock.

The curve ball:
The picture on the bottom of the page shows me slowing down on the highway when my temp was getting to high, as stated it was 226 in link, almost 229. I had to take a picture because something isn't right. I wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't running link. Ps I have another oil pressure gauge :p

Would putting a fan in between the fmic and radiator as a push fan work at highway speeds? Or is ducting the answer?

What say thee?

Did this start after you replace the thermostat to run at 180* and not a 192*? What does the the "lower radiator hose" stand on looks, and age?

Nope I had a 180 in it to begin with however I figured it may have just gone bad. I guess it didnt because the car is doing the same thing. Both hoses are in good shape. The top hose does get a little bit hotter then the bottom.

I feel my car randomly pms's on me sometimes. I need a girl name for it.

Try removing the front bumper cover and run with it down the highway at the same speeds, Maybe there is some "Radiator Fins that are damaged. Could the "IC" keeping air from the radiator or try some "ducting" to see if it improves any. First, try the "front bumper cover removal."

and as far i know when you run only a single fan it doesnt go at high rpms it only reaches the high rpms wen the 2nd fan kicks in other than tht it only runs at low rpms so it could be running to slow when your on the highway i may be wrong about that any input?

Usually over 35-40 mph your fans don't matter. So i feel like having an extra fan in there will not help. Like I said my idle and cruising, around 40 mph or lower, temps are golden. Its just the highway driving.

I'm going to do a compression test tomorrow just to make sure the H/G is still good, and Im going to check the head studs torque with my snap-on torque wrench. Boo-yay.

Any other input would be sweet as well.

Im thinking about making up some sort of duct work.

You sir are having the exact same problem I am having. Ducting air to the radiator will be your best friend. Atleast you don't have the ac rad. I have it and I'm trying to duct a way around it.

Ect? I just picked up some water wetter and a new sensor. So we will see what that does. And I'm in the midst of making some progress. Same route that I took yesterday, today I'm seeing about 216 on ecmlink while on the highway. This is what I did. As you see now there is a direct shot to the radiator.

I just put the upper on. I had to mod it to make it fit my external wastegate off the manifold. I'm just doing a compression check as we speak.
