OVERHEATING? The issues and their solutions have remained the same- either you don't have enough cool air reaching the rad, there's a cooling system obstruction which is preventing coolant from circulating, or your head gasket has failed and is allowing coolant to be consumed or pushed away from the engine.

Discuss all possible overheating problems and solutions here.

OK,
I just left my house to go over to my GF's,and happen to look down and see my needle right before the red mark. This just happened out of nowhere. I stop the car as quickly as i can, and pour in some coolant(Coolant a little low). Still same thing. Welp im in the middle of the road, and HAD to get it home. Im only 5 min from my house. I decided to try and make it(I really had no other choice). Welp I drive no faster than 20mph, and the temp needle is BARELY into the red the whole way.And occasionaly to the left of it. Am I ok?? Do ya think any damage was done?? And im thinking either thermostat, or water pump. For each of those, whats a round about $$ figure to get replaced?? Any info you have would be GREATLY appreciated!

Yeah always have to add coolant I don't see where it's leaking from and there is no smoke

Also checked the oil looks fine no milkiness...

So is it pure coolant?! Do you have an overflow bottle? I suspect your cap, might be boiling over and come out through there and evaporating. Add some DISTILLED water

If it's using coolant and not leaking, I'd be thinking head gasket. Compression and leakdown tests are next on the list... Like you said. Compression test won't necessarily tell you whether or not the gasket is blown; if you can, buy/borrow a combustion leak tester, it's a simple test and doesn't require a teardown to get the answer. I recently encountered a very similar situation that started just like yours and then progressively got worse.

Okay, so i was driving down the road and came to a stoplight. I started to smell something like burning oil, or something else burning. So just to be safe i pulled over and sat for awhile. When i went to start the car again, it started up rough, and there was a check engine light on. So i turned the car off again, and sat. I repeated that for awhile until the light went off. When i start the car when it is hot, it almost always starts rough, and i can smell gassy fumes. Not sure the problem is and i need some help. I am running a 16g but on low boost, and am still running the smic. Would a fmic help. I bought the car not running and it had sat for awhile prior to me buying it. How about a new radiator, and a coolant system flush. Anything will help.

Thanks

It smells like (Fuel) or like (Coolant)? What I got out it, because you were jumping back & forth, sounded like your "running rich" causing the (rough run) and (gassy fumes) you stated.....

I would check an see if you FPR has a vacuum source, I have had that happen to me and the solenoid had the line pop off an caused me to run pig rich an it smelt like fumes to high hell.

I would check for air in the system, let it idle for a few with the cap off an any air will bubble out once the at temp, let the car cool and do it again my car was "eating" coolant an slightly overheated and that was my issue.

See if you did not blow/a hole in a coupler. Double check your oil lines and you didn't overheat/cook anything. +1 on FPR. Do you have any other mods? Do you have way to see your A/F ratio, (Air-Fuel) like a WBG, (wideband gauge)? I do not see many things under your profile, that is why I ask....

Yes.

Well I think everyone who owns one of these cars should have one so my opinion is a little biased haha... just make sure you don't accidentally get a narrowband gauge.

It is just really helpful to know if you are running rich or lean. I am going to be getting my wideband soon.

My car has been plagued with overheating problems for the past few months. Before it only used to overheat when idling for long periods of time, or when going from high speed freeway driving to city driving.

I noticed the coolant was looking milky, but there was no coolant in the oil. So I figured oil sandwich cooler was loose. And it was. Tightened it up, then did a coolant flush and fill. Filled the block and the overflow bottle (not sure if I should have done this, but it has not yet backflowed out the top). Still overheating, and coolant is looking milky at the top again.

The car also runs like shat when it gets up to temp. No power at all whatsoever. Any input would be appreciated.

pretty good sign of a dead head gasket. oil + water turns milk shakey. doesn't always have tobe the other way around as well.

Have you inspected your spark plugs? Still. as said, if your coolant is changing appearance, sounds likely a head gasket problem :(!

Hey guys, I need some advice. Any time outside temperature is above about 95*F and I want to roll with the A/C on, my car (98 GSX) starts to overheat. If I keep the A/C off and roll with the windows down, it stays around normal operating temperature but then I'm burning up LOL. I have the stock radiator with a 12" ebay fan and a FMIC. Should I shell out for an aftermarket radiator? Any help is appreciated

I know they're separate fans.. I think what is happening is, when I turn my A/C on, it puts extra stress on the engine (more than it should) and overheats. And yes, I know turning the heat on blast brings engine temps down, and I do that when necessary, I just want to be able to roll with A/C and not worry about my car overheating
