OVERHEATING? The issues and their solutions have remained the same- either you don't have enough cool air reaching the rad, there's a cooling system obstruction which is preventing coolant from circulating, or your head gasket has failed and is allowing coolant to be consumed or pushed away from the engine.

Discuss all possible overheating problems and solutions here.

OK,
I just left my house to go over to my GF's,and happen to look down and see my needle right before the red mark. This just happened out of nowhere. I stop the car as quickly as i can, and pour in some coolant(Coolant a little low). Still same thing. Welp im in the middle of the road, and HAD to get it home. Im only 5 min from my house. I decided to try and make it(I really had no other choice). Welp I drive no faster than 20mph, and the temp needle is BARELY into the red the whole way.And occasionaly to the left of it. Am I ok?? Do ya think any damage was done?? And im thinking either thermostat, or water pump. For each of those, whats a round about $$ figure to get replaced?? Any info you have would be GREATLY appreciated!

It doesn't when you are actually driving it. It gets ####ing hot as shit when parked without letting the fans run 1-2 minutes.

Maybe its just heat soak in the engine bay? I will get to about 3/4 the stock gauge. Sensor went out on my autometer so I have no clue what its reading in actual temps atm.

sounds like temp is rising mainly due to the fan being off / heat soak in the bay. If it really bothers you wire in a turbo timer or a fan timer to run them a little longer before/after shutdown.

Yeah I just scored a set of 2150 CFM Pusher/Puller Slim fans from Amazon for rather cheap. I think I am gonna mount the passenger's side in the stock location, and put the driver's side on as a puller. I think I am gonna wire them so they will both come one with the timer switch.

Anyways I just go in there, my driver's side fan wash trashed, not running the o2 heatshield for you. PO took it off and trashed it for some reason.

ATM My plans are to header wrap the o2 housing. Install the fans with a timer switch. I've allready put some VHT Ceramic paint on the manifold HS. Gonna put a few more coats. Try and push all that exhaust heat further down the downpipe.

look for leaks.

Done and done. I had a small leak from the OFH Coolant feed. And another small one from My Flush Valve (Fitting that lets me screw in a garden hose to one of the heater core lines to run a cooling system flush easily). Those were fixed before I started driving the car. I am not loosing any coolant. It just really worries me that the car is getting so hot when I park it.

proper ducting and air flow control will also greatly improve the effectiveness of any cooling fans you do.

do a search for ducted radiators and you will see alot of people can get a 15 degree drop with about a 30 buck investment if some thin sheet metal

Havent gotten around to getting the creeking figued out, ive been driving my other car while i wait for the money to replace whatever needs to be replaced. after i get the creeking to stop my next thing to fix is going to be the exhaust, i cant stand how loud it is.

Well I gave up on it, since everything seems to be working but still overheat due to water evaporation, I figure the only way water disappear its for it to be getting in the combustion chamber some how, either through the head or through the block somehow. I took the engine down and its now sitting on the stand. Can't get to it because I'm working in Austin, I'll be back Sunday, and start tearing it appart also an amazing discovery, previous owner had a 7 bolt dropped in my 1g I was what? Now I'm not sure whether to build it or not.

7-bolt fail. But if I remember correct the last part of the 91 years could have had that from the factory.

Sorry you ended up pulling it but now you can take care of a bunch of small issues at once.

Paint that block while it's out.

Good luck with everything.

A seven bolt build, plenty of 7 bolts that are BUILT how much hp, gonna have to build it and see there is a thread on how much hp you can make its really long.

radiator cap had the same thing happen to me water cant boil if it is in a pressurized system my radiator cap spring was too weak it wouldnt let it pressurise the system therefor the boiling over problem also anti freeze raises the boiling point as well

Im not trying to be rude but hey man you post on the tech section check your grammar is terrible bro..

Now about the fan not turning on have you check your wiring is they not melted or it could be a bad relay, or maybe or fan is burn go to the junk yard and get some relays and a new fan..
Cut your fan cables and test your fan from your batterry and see if it turns on if not is burn do some research man..
Fix your grammar thanks..

every things look okay to me...but i jux notice today tat the radiator fan not working...is it becuz of tat...check all the fuse and not blown...so dont noe ### to do...can any of yall help me first b4 i go to the mechanic thx

Actually, common misconception. You don't even need a radiator fan, if you keep the car moving! The fan is for when the car is not moving.

So no, it won't overheat while you are driving anything over like 10 MPH.

However, be sure and fix it right away. If someone were to leave it idling, sitting, it would kill it.

Thermo may be sticking.... so do you have any smoke out of exhaust?
This, really. Commonly the thermostat is the problem.

But it was working fine until you changed the coolant, right? So either you filled it wrong, or you put something in there that exposed weak spot and now have a leak.

Have you checked coolant level? You should have someone who knows what they are doing service your car.

Here... let me fix yours:

Im not trying to be rude, but please try to work on your grammar.

Now about the fan not turning on; have you checked your wiring? Maybe the wires are melted, or it could be a bad relay, or maybe a fan is burned out. Go to the junk yard and get some relays and a new fan.

Cut your fan cables and test your fan from your battery and see if it turns on; if not, it is bad. Do some research man.
Fix your grammar. Thanks.

;)

but please try to work your grammar

Yeah! Work that grammar baby!

:p

Now that we're talking about overheating. Where does everyone's temperature gauge stay at normal driving, say after driving for 30 minutes? Mine always leans towards the cold side and never goes to 12 o'clock. Once in a while it'll dip all the way to the cold then shoot back to where it was. Is this a loose connection in the dash cluster or somewhere else?
