Car died on the road and had to push it to the side, I crank it and sounds like no theres no compression, so I immediately think timing belt snapped (only 30K miles on it since last change). I walk home about a mile to get my Expedition and pull it home with chains. Im wondering how im going to get it in my garage since the driveway is uphill, I cant pull it up because the Expedition will be in front of it, and I cant back it in either so I park it in the street for the night and figure something out tomorrow. At that point im tired and sweaty so I go in and shower and eat dinner and call it a night. 30 mins later I cant take it anymore and I have to go outside and confirm my thinking, I remove the timing belt cover and I find the timing belt is still intact, so I start it up and it runs but it sounds like its on 2 cyls and the alternator belt is squealing. Im stumped.. meanwhile I go to remove all the chain hardware that I used to tow it, and about 10 minutes later i start it up once again and now it runs perfect!! The idle is smooth and I figure i might as well proceed up the driveway while its running, power feels normal even uphill and I get it in the garage without any problem. So now im confused like hell as to what happened... Tomorrow ill do a compression check, im thinking the head gasket blew, but why would it feel normal after cooling down a bit? Any thoughts?? At this point im open to anything.
