Car died on the road and had to push it to the side, I crank it and sounds like no theres no compression, so I immediately think timing belt snapped (only 30K miles on it since last change). I walk home about a mile to get my Expedition and pull it home with chains. Im wondering how im going to get it in my garage since the driveway is uphill, I cant pull it up because the Expedition will be in front of it, and I cant back it in either so I park it in the street for the night and figure something out tomorrow. At that point im tired and sweaty so I go in and shower and eat dinner and call it a night. 30 mins later I cant take it anymore and I have to go outside and confirm my thinking, I remove the timing belt cover and I find the timing belt is still intact, so I start it up and it runs but it sounds like its on 2 cyls and the alternator belt is squealing. Im stumped.. meanwhile I go to remove all the chain hardware that I used to tow it, and about 10 minutes later i start it up once again and now it runs perfect!! The idle is smooth and I figure i might as well proceed up the driveway while its running, power feels normal even uphill and I get it in the garage without any problem. So now im confused like hell as to what happened... Tomorrow ill do a compression check, im thinking the head gasket blew, but why would it feel normal after cooling down a bit? Any thoughts?? At this point im open to anything.

Could be electrical. Spark plugs, plug wires, check battery connections, fuel filter as mentioned. Just suggestions but good to eliminate each to find the answer.

Open your ecu, look for corrosion. If you smell a kinda fishy smell a cap has leaked somewhere. My car did this to me all the time. Sometimes repeatedly sometimes weeks later.

Ive been driving it around for the past couple days and noticed that the problem comes back when i get on the gas. Letting it cool down or driving it lightly will make it run normal again. After doing some reading, it seems that this problem may be the power transistor for the ignition, sometimes referred to igniter or ignition module. My next target will be the CAS, and lastly the ECU...
