Hey whatz up fellas? I picked up some new .020 NPR rings and pistons the first two dropped in fairly easy. Now on the other 3 cylinders I broke the bottom oil ring on two pistons trying to get it in the cylinder. I put a Std oil ring against the .020 oil ring and looks the be same gap . The oem oil rings are slightly thicker. When I try put the Std rings on with the oil control ring I believe it called(Zig Zag Ring) it keeps popping out but when I put Std control ring with oil compression rings it fits. Really dont want to spend $50 bucks on 2 rings any help apprecitated THANKS!

no..... you will not have the proper oil ring tention to the cylinder to scrape the oil from the bore

Thanks again for your help what if gap is in within range because from what I can see the gap is pretty much the same..

put the .020 ring in the block and check with a feeler gauge , just like you would a compression ring... then check the std ring in there.. I doubt they will be the same...

the arch of the ring differs with size...

I got .002 on feeler for 020. Piston Ring and couldnt even check the Std one. With the feeler gauge because it just kept falling down so I guess you cant use Std Rings.

if you are having issues with the rings sliding into the bore when on the pistons.. sounds like the champher of the block needs to be redone.. its just a small 45* at the top of the cylinder... was the block decked?
