Well I haven't had A/C in about two years cause it broke, the only part left is the compressor, I just never took it out.

My question is,

Can I just cut the belt and unbolt the compressor? or does that belt run something else too?

I tell you what, i been driving all freaking summer with no A/C. Now just last week i got the damn thing fixed and here comes the nice cool crisp air. S*it! 98GSXtreme07 I know hot freaking hot it gets round here and i would keep the compressor in my car. Just save up and fix it around March, right before it gets HOT again. There is a lot less strain on the engine when it's not there but, damn it gets hot down here.

:confused:Hey guys I know everyones talking about how to remove there A/C but I was just wonderin is there anyway the Recharge the freon in my 96 gst spyder. is it possible to buy the ones in auto zone and recharge it like that. any help is greatly appreciated.

I removed my whole A/C system and it was loads of fun just take your time with it when you do it. You will loose about 45lbs off your car when your done and the engine bay looks a little cleaner as well.

I've been trying to search to find my answer and I have not been able to. My a/c does not work at all so I was wanted to just remove the a/c belt and not worry about the a/c anymore. But it looks as though there are two other pulleys running off the belt, one being the crank and I can not see what the other is right now. But wouldn't I need a smaller belt to put on to eliminate the belt from going around the a/c? If not then great, if so, can anyone tell me exactly what belt to get from the parts store?

One is the a/c belt tensioner and the other is the crank pulley. You can remove that belt just leave the other because it runs the power steering and alternator.

Fill out your vehicle info...we can help you easier if we know what you're workin' with. ;)

If you have a 2g (1g's might be the same, I'm just more familiar with 2g's) there's a bracket and pulley (tensioner) on the block, drivers side, towards the firewall. You can rip that out. Might as well pull your lines, condenser, and compressor as well.

Just leave the other one how it is.

I can remember years ago when I first got into DSM'S that people would say to cut your a/c belt so that you can get as much power from that as you would get from a full exhaust. I thought that was funny because it came from a lot of Honda guys.

OK so first off yes you can remove the a/c belt it only runs the a/c and nothing else. second off if your not sure about what your doing or which belt is which, don't touch it. have someone who actually knows about cars do it for you or take it to a shop. and just so we are clear the a/c belt on a 1g is the one closest to the fire wall. do not cut the other two belts they run the power steering and the alternator. also after the bel is off remove the tensioner pulley also it's just an extra pound on the car thats very easy to remove.
