I am at stock ride height with 235 45 17 tires and i still rub. i want to do a little camber but i cant even do half a degree due to my tires literally being so close to my struts i cant even put a pencil between them. If i got a camber adjustment kit would i be able to do camber? I want to lower my car and by the looks of it the only way thats going to happen without rubbing is to get coils.

53" offset 17x8 wheels

I'm assuming you mean it has a +53 offset, but that'd be your problem. You'll need a spacer to run those properly and to keep them out of the knuckle. Something in the realm of 15mm probably, but you can test by just stacking up some washers on a few of the lugs and see how much it takes to get it to clear, then measure and order a spacer. Or just swap out for wheels with a more suitable offset, as using that much spacer is not the best idea.

As you can see, camber is not the fix for an improper fitting wheel.

LOL i am running 10mm spacers and extended studs

I read many times that 17*9 +27 is optimal.

I use this as a calculator to compare rims/offsets. Use 17*9 +27 as optimal and then your rimes to see inner and outer clearance compared to optimal for max width...

1010TIRES.COM - Wheel Offset Calculator

According to the calculator ( double check my math ) your 13mm less inner clearance before your spacers. So your 3mm short with the spacer. A 15mm spacer probably fixes your problem. Thats comparing to the know max rim to ideally fit without headaches. But to center the wheel for scrub radius, etc a 25mm spacers brings your car back to factory specs ( but with a wider wheel ).

I am assuming you have a 1g from the picture.

This is no way to respond to a helpful post, how can he "guess" that you have 10mm spacers if you said "53"" i mean +53? your wheel offset now is +43 so if you state that, that changes the recommendation to 5mm spacers, don't just expect from everyone to guess...

Ok your running 10mm spacers and why are you still rubbing? oh you need either 5mm of more spacer or replace you wheels with some wheels with offset proper to the car (if 17x8 +33-+39) and/or coil overs if your problem is the 1g perch.

i didnt expect anyone to guess. i didnt know mentioning spacers was mandatory til someone said i need them.why would i put 5mm more if they poke out enough now they rub the fenders when i do something like a uturn.

and not one person has yet to answer the question which was if i got camber adjustment kit would that help at all or should i just get coils

unless you have a camber problem then no. you need different rims/tires or you need to tub your fenders. best options for your issue or get coilovers then you might need the camber kit. but i doubt a camber kit alone will fix your problem since your struts will still give the same amount while cornering and rub.

Make it stop. It hurts.

You should have known it was relevant when you were asked for offset. And it's not mandatory; it's just in your best interest if you want useful replies. Feel free to not mention it next time. See how it works out for you.

Two reactions to this:

First, the reason why people are suggesting more spacer is because YOU SAID THE TIRES ARE ALMOST RUBBING THE STRUTS!

Second, it seems odd that mere 235s on a 17x8 (of any offset) would be simultaneously almost rubbing the struts and poking out. Did you get the special kind of 1G with the anti-flared fenders?

and not one person has yet to answer the question which was if i got camber adjustment kit would that help at all or should i just get coils

It's hard for people to answer a vague or ill-posed question. What kind of "camber kit" are we talking about? If you mean some new funky bolts for down at the knuckle, then, yes, you could use those to delete some camber and get the tire away from the strut, but then you'd be right back here bitching about how the wheels now poke out even more. If you mean a camber plate, then that won't do jack for the distance between the tire and the strut.

With all that said (and, don't worry, I enjoyed writing it), I have a sneaking suspicion that you might not have any clue what the word "strut" actually means. For all I know (because I'm not the right kind of psychologist for you), you're babbling on about the rear suspension.

After all, at least one guy with a 2G joined in with some less-than-useful ideas.

Here we go again, this is post #11 coming from you and this is the first time you told us "i rub in the fenders" throughout the thread you were to busy saying I rub on my "strut" or its just me and im crazy?

I need a psycoligist so bad...

And no camber wont help you, if u move the tire in you rub according to you, if u move it out u still rub, if someone tells me whats the solution ill paypal a dollar right now.

Wait, nevermind.

His solution would be to put stock rims/tires back on.

Everyone on here is making the biggest deal over my spacing between my strut and tire, my apparent stupidity (which is why I asked the question about a camber kit being I DONT KNOW WHAT THEY DO") and the the things I mention or didnt mention. Everyone on here is more worried about my spacing than I am, the struts will NEVER HIT THE TIRE and i ONLY RUB WHILE TURNING AND FORCE IS PUT ONTHE FRONT OF THE CAR.

the ####ing question was "would a camber kit do anything or should I just get coils". how in the hell did this turn in to a huge debate against me and my wheels, spacing and completely disregarded the question at hand. I wasnt asking about offset, what I could do to fix my spacing other than if a camber kit would do anything, or getting different wheels.

This thread pretty much did nothing to benefit the question yet again WILL A CAMBER KIT DO ANYTHING OR SHOULD I JUST GET COILS.

JESUS ####ING CHRIST.

lets start over :D!!!!!!!!!!!!

My problem is I want to go lower, if I go lower I will need camber, If I camber I will hit my struts if I keep a strut/lowering spring set up because they are already close to touching THEY DO NOT TOUCH. Will a camber kit do anything in this situation or should I get coils

giving the very few actually helpful posts on here it seems coils are my only choice or new wheels. So my next question is what do camber kits do because I dont know.

You completely miss read the rubbing issue being i rub fender not my strut and continued to be a smart ass. I didnt feel the need to mention the spacers because my question was about camber kits, what would they do and should i just get coils not "what can i do to move my wheels away from my struts"

Wait, nevermind.

As far as I know ive never posted about rubbing issues

Yeah I guess I meant +53. I just looked up the specs of the wheel and it said 53" i dont know why.

Thanks for being the only one not going off topic and worrying about my flaws in the post and answering the question somewhat.

Make it stop. It hurts.

my question wasnt about offset it was about camber and what camer kits do and my issue.

The smart a$$ attitude was unneeded. The useless post was also unneeded just to point out nothing to do what my original post. Its the guys like you that make everyone think all DSM owners are pricks.

Also, the strut is under the gas tank right? hooked to the exhaust from the turbo suction tube? Thats what i figured. I dont know what those things are attatched to my wheels and brakes and all that doohickie mess under there i just know it rolls.

I AM SO GLAD I ASK QUESTIONS ON THIS SITE BECAUSE ALL OF YOU BUT ONE WAS TOTALLY USELESS AND MORE WORRIED ABOUT MAKING ME FEEL LIKE A TOTAL IDIOT (WHICH YOU DIDNT) AND GOING OFF TOPIC LIKE AN OLD MAN WITH ALZHEIMER.

Here's the first sentence [fragment] from your entertaining hissy-fit:

Everyone on here is making the biggest deal over my spacing between my strut and tire....

And here's the second sentence of your first post:

i want to do a little camber but i cant even do half a degree due to my tires literally being so close to my struts i cant even put a pencil between them.

DSMTalk beckons, dude.

Get some coil-overs to get rid of the perch, and buy a camber kit while there to to correct negative camber, the reason spacers were brought up is because that's the way you correct wheel fitment, by offset not camber.

1) Tires are to close to strut.
2) Tires are to close to fender.

You can't do anything about it just:

1) Get coil-overs if the problem is the perch, now you will be able to adjust your camber a little bit negative and help not to be "so close" to the fender or "coilovers".
2) Get some different wheel with correct offset for your car.

I can't be more specific than this I'm going over my will here.
