just finished the 16g install on the car, and everything seems to be working just fine, except for i burn a ton of oil when i hit boost...

now when i start the car or just sitting there is no oil buring or anything... any time i hit boost and shift it will puff out a TON of blue smoke. when you look under the car the exhaust is getting coated with oil and burning off, but the only place that it could be leaking from is the oil return line...

the 16g install kit i ordered from extreme psi came with two fittings that are ribbed and bolted up to the turbo and oil pan, and connected by a insulated hose of some sort.

at the start the hose had no hose clamps on it, and it was burning a bunch of oil, and it looked like the hose wasnt creating a solid seal around the fitting so i put a hose clamp on it, but it didnt help.

now on the fitting on the oil pan it is caked in black rtv, and i couldnt figure quite sure why. but it was leaking... and still might be...

my only guess is the top fitting is leaking somehow... the top fitting was easy to install but it might not be tight enough, or something...

any other ideas?

So you think it might be leaking from the feed line on top of the turbo? What feed line are you using? Since you are using the crappy turbochargers.com drain hose I'm going to assume you are also using their feed line. If that's the case, make sure you used the copper washer between the turbo and the blue fitting that screws into the turbo.

If you look around you should just be able to see where its leaking, unless everything in your engine area is caked in oil.

Look for wet spots around the oil line connection, around the connection for the oil return, etc.

no i dont think its the feed line, the feed line doesnt have any oil on it or around it at all...
i think its the top return line thats screwin me up. the feed s stainless steel braided line and has NPR fittings on each end, so i dont think its that... plus i membered to put teflon tape on all of the fittings...

it doesnt come with blue fitting, but it did come with copper washers, and fittings... you think i need to put a washer in between the fitting and the turbo?

Without seeing what kind of line you are using I would say if it's not leaking don't worry about it. When you said line on the top I thought you meant the line that goes to the top of the turbo, not the top of the return line.
Those ends on the return line that the gasket mates to seem pretty cheap. I wouldn't doubt they aren't flat. They don't have any type of machined finish or anything. I would remove the line and run a file over them for a minute to make sure they are perfectly flat. Then reinstall with new gaskets or the old ones with a very thin layer of rtv if they aren't oily.

housegsx, he mentioned it's an install kit from Extreme PSI, not Turbochargers.com.

itsreallyadodge, You say that you are buring a ton of oil?
Now, do you mean that you are burning oil in the combustion chamber?
Or, there's a leak and the oil is burning on the outside of your downpipe?

okay... guess ill drain the oil when i get home and pull the fittings off.... would i be better off going to home depot and getting my own NPR fittings with a SS line thats roughly the same size?

He says "when you look under the car the exhaust is getting coated with oil and burning off" so it makes it sound like its just spraying or dripping onto the exhaust.

They resell their install kit as do many vendors such as FP etc.

itsreallyadodge... don't you have the original drain pipe? After I got my contraption in the mail I set it aside and reused the old one. You just have to oval out the holes in the flange on one side.

we thought the original pipe would work with the turbo but it doesnt reach, it looks fairly new, plus with the rtv around the bottom end of the pipe wants me to think that it was replaced or something.

so then we thought we could cut the pipe in half and just use half of the hose that EPSI sent us, and the one fitting, but we didnt have a pipe cutter, thus we pulled it off...

heres a pic of what the original looks like with the rtv on it.

when the oil burns, it coats a good part of the downpipe, and it looks like its spraying onto the axle boot.

WOW! Yeah, that is waaay too much rtv. Again, I'd say to resurface those flanges on the new drain pipe and try it again.

alright ill give that a shot... and the funny thing is, thats how i got the car... bah...

ill start scraping that crap off, put some new rtv on it, and hope to god that itll actually hold oil under pressure...

ill update later tonight.

Uhm. Is the smoke coming OUT of the tailpipe??

Where did you get that 16g?

Sounds more like a blown turbo AND you have a leaky line..

bought it from a guy on ebay... the turbo was brand spankin new, still had the plastic covers on the inlet, and plastic covering all the holes for the fittings...

i dunno, i wanna think its a blown turbo too, considering the amount of blue smoke that billows out from under the car when i shift... its redonk, i can cover an entire intersection if im up at like 12lbs and shift...

so after i removed all the fittings, and put them back on with a little teflon tape and rtv on the gaskets, i still can cloud 3 lanes of traffic under boost.

its coming completely out of the exhaust now, and i can see i have a leak in my downpipe.

only thing i can think of is pull the POS 16g off and put my stock t25 back on...

this sucks.

Is your oil return line kinked at all. I had my oil return slighly kinked and it would smoke like crazy under boost. Also how big of a line are you using. Just curious did you buy one of those cheap ebay turbos or is it a real MHI unit.

Just checked your other thread and it is def a knock off ebay turbo. Did you prime the turbo before you started it. Check for shaftplay and see how bad it is. Take your LICP off and check to see if your innercooler is full of oil also.

If it was a brand new turbo, send the damn thing back. Whether it was an eBay knock-off, they still have warranties. Its a hit-or miss type of deal, some people are still running their first turbo, others are in their 3-4th. If it were me I'd continue to run them till the warranty runs out, then find a real MHI unit. Make the suckers pay.
