I tried the search on this, and i am really suprised that there isnt a thread on this.
ANyway my problem is that the end broke off of my oil dipstick today and now its wedged inside the dipstick tube. Its too far in there for neednoses and I cant get a magnet on it. Is there any other way other then taking the oil pan off to get it? ANy suggestions?
This is the 3rd time this has happend to me. I usually just used needle nose pliers to get it out. My 1st DSM broke 2 dipsticks and when I was test driving a DSM a few years ago, it also broke one too.

unbolt the holder and pull the broken dip stick out its quite simple really i think its only one bolt cant miss it then re attach the dip stick pipe, cap off the pipe where the dip stick goes till you find replacement

no worries no problems :thumb:

thanks for letting it sound so simple, however can you please tell me if it will leak oil ?/

is this job easy ? can i do it myself or shall i take it to a work shop ????

i think that this tube is connected all the way to the engine so how i will remove it ?

please explain more ( i take extra extra care of my lovely GST and i dont want any harm to it )

thnaks

unless the car is running it wont leak oil and it is connected to the engine block its-self you just un do the bolt wiggle it out and you will see your broken stick sitting in there still you wont spill to much oil maybe a few drops but it is one of those things you can do yourself no need for a shop its a 5 min job tops if i remeber correct the size is 14mm socket.... its been a few months though

Alright guys mine broke tonight and some retard mechanic i asked to pull it and put a new one in.. just ended up ramming it half down the tube.

So now i can't even see it. Can someone post a picture of this 14mm bolt to remove please and thank you:)

guys please i tried to remove this bolt but the TUBE is not moving at ALLLLLLLLL

i tried to move it left and right but its really not moving and the dip stick is still inside :(

can you please just asnwer this simple question : CAN THE DIP STICK REACH TO THE ENGINE INSIDE AND DO SOME DAMAGE and is it ok if i drive the car like that ? my car is parked since yesterday and i am afraid to drive it now ?

please answer me on what to do to remove this thing ? its really not moving and i am afraid if i push too much i will break the whole tube off

thanks

the same thing happend to me i broke my dip stick and it went down to the oil pan then my buddy worked on it. when i went to work it was at his shop he tryed takeing a magentic stick it also broke off and went down there so the next day i just took the oil pan off and took the dip stick/magentic out just need a new oil pan gasket

Alright all of the people who still cannot get the tube out. Follow the tube half way down you will se the bolt. remove it. now take a pair of pliers and grip the tube close to the bottom. You need to keep a little bit off force on the pliers that way they wont spin around the tube. All you have to do is rotate pliers left to right. Trust me it works Ive had to do it before as well

:talon:I assume your refering to the oil dip stick. My 95 tsi has one bolt holding it down into its hole. The bolt is behind the dip stick tube circled in dark blue. Sorry about the crappy picture, I just happened to have a pic of that area on my sd card.

I used to be systems analyst at a hospital and believe it or not, a nurse actually wound up helping me recover my lost dipstick after the handle broke off a couple of years ago by giving me a very long/skinny pair of hemastats. I was able to snag the remaining piece of my dipstick pretty easily with them as opposed to a magnet or needle nose. So, if you know a doctor or nurse(or a stoner LOL ) who can hook you up, you might be able to save yourself some work removing the tube.

p.s. A stethoscope can also come in pretty handy when diagnosing engine noises. :sneaky:

how did you get to the BOLT? ( its very difficult to reach) did you lift your car ? what did you do exactly to remove it ( did you do it yourself?)

it has been now more than 2 weeks for me and i just gave up ( i need to take it to a mechanic to remove it) i JUST CANT REACH THE DAMN BOLT )
