Ok... I just installed 5 brand new lug studs on the driver side front. My wheels are ballanced, not bent or damaged... and I keep breaking them. Right now I'm screwed and have to take the entire suspension apart because the wheel is locked on with a stripped stud that just keeps turning and wont loosen up. I tried breaking that last one since all 4 just recently broke. But it wont break.

WTF? How are these studs going to hold the power when this car is Turbocharged if it wont even hold it now...

What is going on?

I have never had a stud break unless it was crossthreaded.

1. What kind or rims are you using?
1A. If aftermarket, are you using hubcentric rings?
2. What are you using to tighten the lugs?
3. How are you installing the lugs?

Terry

1. 17" RS GT Wheels
1A. Yes
2. Lug Key and Universal Lug Bar
3. Cati Corner Patern. Bolt 1, then bolt across from bolt one, then bolt across from bolt two, then bolt across from bolt three, then bolt across from bolt four, then bolt across from bolt five. Then I tighten all of them.

ok so you have aftermarket lugs.

Check to make sure the hubcentric rings are the correct size. They should be snug to the hub obviously. The Lugs, the taper on the inboard portion of the lugs needs to match the taper of the rims. This is more important than you would think.

Use a torque wrench and torque the lugs down and see if you have any other problems. There is a torque spec in the manual for the lugs. If the lugs are tight, i dont see why the studs keep breaking unless there is a problem with the rim. A problem that bad shoudl be noticeable.

There is no hub centric ring on the wheel/hub/rotor. So looks like all the weight of the car is going down on the lugs. And I can't get one lug off... so I installed all the 4 new ones through the wheels... Since one of my wheels is off from damage on the freeway, I am going to take the ring off of that wheel, it should still be there.

Without it, there is like a 1/8th" gap all round the hub/rotor ring and the inside of the wheel.

I need to figure out how to break that other lug stud or something, It needs to come off. I can't get my caliper back on... well I got it on, but the rear pad fell off halfway, so its not going on right. this car is not making me any happier.

oh man, go buy yerself some hub centric rings... thats just bad.

I dont understand, you posted above that you are using H-Rings yet you just posted that you arent, which is it?

If you dont use the H-rings, the studs will be fine if you are properly tightening the wheels. I did this on mine until I had a set of rings. Not a good idea but this would not be a problem if you were tightening the studs. I suspect you are not getting them very tight. Use a torque wrench next time to be sure.

To remove the lug that is frozen....Get a breaker bar and socket and put some umppff into it. The studs are not that strong and should break. Obviously it goes without saying that you do this with the car on the ground, parking brake on, car in 1st gear, engine off.

LOL, I would love for you to try this on this one lug.. The lug isn't frosen, the inside of the stud is stripped, so all it does is turn!

And All the other 3 wheels have the H-Rings... I swore I had it on this wheel to, but I was mistaken. So when I was looking at things when puting crap back together, I noticed that there isn't one. I dont know where to buy one. I went to a few wheel shops, they said no. I went to discount tire, they said no. WTF?!?!

AAAhhh i see..LOL I misunderstood the lug. Well your in for a treat. Go to a local tool store and buy a carbide cutting bit. Start grinding out the lug like a dentist drills a tooth. This is really time consuming but you dont have too many choices. If you can get behind it then go ahead and grind it from the backside to prevent damaging the rim.

As for the hub ring? Not sure where you would buy just one. Any of your friends have eclipses? hahaha I know you can buy them from discount tire, thats where I got mine. Sad part is you will need to buy a full set. Look on ebay, i bought mine from a guy that was selling them from corporate office Discount tire. If your local shop still cant understand what you need, call corporate office in AZ. They have helped me before with other issues. If you want i can search for the paypal transaction i had and you can email the guy that sold me mine.
