Just bought my first eclipse, its a 96 gs with 114k. Just had a few questions about the mods i was looking to put on it. First is the intake, is it better to get short ram or full intake. I had a full injen intake on my celica and got water in the motor while driving through a good bit of water =/ Luckily no hydro lock. But what is the difference in hp gain between the short ram and full intake. Id like to get about 170 whp so what other mods can i do without turbo the get that much hp? Here are some links to the exhaust and intake i plan on buying this week. I welcome any advice for better mods if you think the ones im getting are not good.

I would get an intake that won't be breathing form inside the engine bay. Maybe get something that will go behind the front bumper, just watch out for the deep water puddles. And than exhaust is good, I'd keep it around 2.5 so you don't kill to much back pressure and lose so low end torque. And also get a header.

Here's a pretty good link on first mods. With a few uprgrades you can definitely get some more ponies out of your engine, but I think it's important to note that the highest HP 420a is in the neighborhood of 220hp. So I wouldn't expect any huge gains from NA performance parts. Not to say it's "pointless" or "dumb" like many will say, just trying to give you realistic advice. :thumb:

This is just one of the many threads in the 420a tech secition. I know there was a thread very recently that talked about the steps to take if your looking for close to 200hp. I can't find it as of now, but I'm sure some mild digging through that section will reveal it.

Just maintanance and header, exhaust, intake short ram.I had those mods before I installed a t3 57 turbo on my 420a.You are not going to exspect alot out of the motor with those basic mods like 5 hp maybe, but it will still feel nice.Best thing really is to just keep it stock and upkeep on the maintanance.
