Whats up guys. i just bought my first dsm. a 94 eagle talon tsi. nice little car but it has its problems for sure. Any help would be appreciated. ive been trying to do all my research the past few days. it gets tiring. thanks in advance.

1. Car has a misfire at low rpm at wot. past 4k rpm it pulls fine. i replaced the plugs and wires. MAF sensor looks good. i have a list of stuff i will go through but any info would be helpful. The cars exhaust is missing the downpipe. so i was curious if maybe that would cause a misfire.

2. my car has no power steering. so the alternator belt is smaller than what stock would be. not sure on the size. hoping someone has deleted their power steering as well and put a smaller belt on.

3. car is really clean. but i do need a few parts to get in going and in great shape.

Like i said any info about these problems or just info in general would be appreciated. Not really familiar with these cars let alone any obd1. so i will have questions frequently. thanks again!

By missing the downpipe, you mean just open turbo? If so your o2 sensor isn't working very well if at all.
The accessories all have their own belts. The alternator and p/s belts are seperate so no need for a shorter belt there.

Good to know for the belt. And i guess a more accurate description of the exhaust would be that it has a pipe dumped to the floor. but nothing hooked up to the rest of the exhaust

Congrats on your first DSM!

Going to go ahead and give you some advice. Get all of your regular routine maintenance done and dusted before you try to do anything else. These cars are great if taken care of properly, and a ton of fun too!

If the car isn't your daily, it would be ideal because you can really take your time and do things right the first time without having to halfway do something just to be able to make it to work in time the next day. Been there done that, it sucks! Lol

I see you said you've done research, that's good! Keep doing research and learn as much as possible about these cars as you can. It will really help you in the long run to retain some knowledge and it will help you enjoy your dsm!

If you throw power at the car at all, be sure that your maintenance is up to date(can't stress this enough)! There are upgrade paths you can find on here and they'll give you a great idea of what needs to be done and when. Do things right the first time, and be able to enjoy your dsm for longer!

Enjoy your time here!

Welcome to the club.

If I could give myself some advice about owning a DSM 14 years ago when I was new, it would be never take any shortcuts. You will spend more money redoing things than doing them properly the first time. I keep detailed notebooks containing specification, general information and my personal notes about changes to the car (especially wiring changes). My old paper notebooks evolved into a digital notebook using free microsoft OneNote over the years. I can access all the information I have amassed in my research easily from my shop computer or phone if needed. I would say a notebook is a must. Otherwise you will spend time researching things repetitively, and you may forget about small changes you have made to the car. I have a quote at the top of the main page in my notebook from the show Futurama: "If you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."

Nice! Good advice thank you

I can't help you with the misfire but just keep in mind that NGK (in my opinion) is second to none on these cars. You probably know this already but I didn't when I first got mine. Keep you car well maintained and happy and it will keep you happy for a very long time. 91 octane only. You can bump up the boost a couple pounds with a mbc but not more than a couple to keep it safe. The fuel pump will be your first obstacle to beat when trying to build power, along with an a afpr. PLEASE check out the upgrade path threads, they are awesome to help you find out what to do next and what your realistic goals should be. Have fun!
