Hi i just today bought a 1992 eclipse gsx. It has 89k miles and its bone stock. When we went on the test drive the stock boost guage went all the way up to 14 psi when he was juicing it. Is it really putting out 14 psi? or are the stock guages not accurate? Also its a automatic and i noticed when he was jucing it on the highway i could not hear the turbo spool up or hear the turbo at all...Does this mean the turbo might be shit? such as cracks or something...

one more thing.... he mentioned something about the gsx that he said made it worth alot more money than most gsx's. He said it has this orange sticker that i saw on the door hinge that meant it was some word with a p he called it...cant forget what the word was..But he said all 4 tires grab instead of just like one of the front tires and one of the back tire...for example the front right tire and the back left tire. Anyway i was just wondering if thats true that the sticker makes it worth more.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Well i own a 2g.But the stock boost gauge on the car doesnt have any numbers or anything. So how do u know it pushes 14psi?It sorta just mesures exhaust temp.So dont go by that. Also i didnt hear my turbo really till i put on a intake on my car and then u heard it loud and clear.

ya it would help to clear up the intake and take out the silencer and what not, then u should be able to hear it much better, but u should still be able to hear it stock. and the sticker in the door jam is the limited slip diff maybe making the car worth 10 more dollars :p .

ty alot guys for the quick responses..Yah thats what he said...LOL he said it makes the car worth atleast $1000 more

Congrats on buying a AWD. The Stock boost gauge that is in the instument cluster, is electroncally controlled by the ecu. It's basically what the ECU thinks the car is boosting, not too reliable... I highly recommend as everyone else is going to tell you look on dsmtrader.com or this site, for a aftermarket boost gauge, I recomend Autometer used like 20-35 and new 55-70 USD. That will give you a accurate read out of what you're turbo is really producing. As far as being able to hear your turbo spool, the automatic cars of the first generation come stock with a slightly smaller 13b turbo, compared to the 14b on 5 speed models. depending on upgrades, which you mentioned the car was stock, it may be diificult to hear it.

I'm not sure if it is a p word, I believe he might have said Viscous, which is referring to a Limited Slip Differential, which your 4 bolt rear end may be equipped with, depending on if I'm thinking of the right word. You are lucky to have found a 92 with low mileage, but remember to safe your turbo, after runs of "juicing it" always let the car cool down for at least a minute before shutting it off... INVEST IN A TURBO TIMER... make life sooo much easier.... plus it always makes me laugh when people come running up to you and say you're car is still running and you just shrug it off.

Congrats on the GSX.
