Okay I just pruchased a 1995 GSX. My goal:

1. Get the Auto tranny out.
2. Get a 6 bolt engine
3. Get a manual tranny to swap in.

Can the tranny be a from a 7 bolt when its going on the 6 bolt, or does it have to be a tranny from a 6 bolt to work?

Should is like "i think" or "i guess", I need to know IF the trannies from the 6 and 7 bolts are interchangable.

You "need" to have the 2G tranny as well you need to swap the rear end.
As far as I know Manual and Automatic Rear end have different gear ratio. so it won't work with the manual tranny.

If I were you I will leave the 2g Auto tranny and swap another 7 bolt! Either drive an AUTO car or sell it to buy a 5 spd GSX!
You are going to have too much problem down the road....

ok, how is this? you cannot use the 6 bolt transmission because it will not bolt up to the transmission mounts. and since 7 bolt engines also came in 1g cars, "7 bolt" is not the answer either. you SHOULD USE a 2g transmission. as in, that is the only thing that you can use for a 2g car.

So, I can use a 6 bolt engine with a 2g manual trans? I read somewhere else that you cannot do this b/c of different gear ratios and that the back and front wheels want to go different speeds.

if you are putting the 6 bolt into a 2g, then use the 2g transmission. i have no clue if the final drive of the rear diff is different for a 2g auto, but that would be the only thing that would make the wheels spin at different speeds. the engine has nothing to do with how fast the wheels turn in relation to each other.

You need a complete drivetrain front to back for a awd auto/manual swap.
It cannot be mix and match. Either 95-96 or 97-99 complete drive train.

You can swap a 6 bolt in.

So... you see where we're getting at? It's a ton of work and money. It will be cheaper to buy a 2G manual.

If you really want to do this auto to manual swap, you better buy a 2g awd manual tranny parts car.

Yes, you can swap in a 6-bolt into your car.

No, you can't just switch out the tranny from your auto to manual.

This bright idea you have it very possible, but costly, and maybe not as reliable as if you had started off with a 2g awd with a 5 speed tranny.

I personally would never attempt what lies ahead of you, just my opinion.
