I just bought my 99 GSX with 76000 miles :D but the person I bought it from isnt the original owner so he has no idea what any of this stuff is maybe some of you can shed some light on these pictures? and also the car has been sitting since 2007 and I bought it as is, the guy claims it ran before being stored away but the clutch pedal is stuck to the floor i can push and pull it back and fourth without much resistance whats the problem? Slave cylinder? the resevoir is full of fluid. (small white cup on the very right drivers side right?) what all do I need to do before starting up? I know ill need to drain the gas whats the easiest way to? Its half full :(

what are these wires for?

On that second pic, whats the word stamped into that box? I cant make it out all the way..

Are you sure the clutch pedal is actually attached to the master cylinder assembly?

Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Wouldn't be surprised if it just needs to be bled after sitting for so long.

If that doesn't help, I would suspect the master/slave cylinder.

Under the car, look at the position that the clutch fork is sitting in the "fork hole" in. If it is centered or more towards that driver side, your clutch and other components are fine unless something is messed up or broken inside.

Have you ran it yet? If not, change the oil and gas first. There is a bolt on the bottom of the gas tank. Remove that and the gas will drain out.

After it runs, and you get the clutch situation taken care of, do all your maintenance. Flush all fluids, new fuel filter, plugs, wires, etc.

i wanna know what that wire in pic number 1 is, is it hooked into your ECU or something? when i bought my GSX 2 weeks ago i noticed i had the same thing in my glove box. is it a data logger or what??

1st cable appears to be a datalogging cable for an older version of ecmlink.

2nd pic is a boston acoustics crossover.

3rd pic is a Fuel lab fuel filter.

As far as your clutch pedal- try bleeding it like stated. May get lucky and get it to work, but not guaranteed. Also the 1g's are the only ones with a drain plug on the gas tank. 2g's don't have a drain plug.

Change all the fluids in the car, put new plugs in it. Then fire it up. Make sure there's no rats nests in anything either.

Yeah i thought that's what the first picture was but wasn't sure, and I don't know where it runs. 2nd picture I just noticed the wires coming from it said fosgate. Thanks.

So how do i put power directly to the fuel pump? Wouldn't old gas gum up and clog/destroy the fuel pump? The tank is half full

You could lift the fuel pump assembly out and syphon the gas out that way. Not sure how else to do it other than getting a junk pump and using it to pump the gas out.

If you do go the route of removing the fuel pump assembly I'll advise you that before you do so be very careful not to kink/bend the stock fuel hard lines as kinking/bending them is very easy to do if you're not careful and don't have good tools.

Im not too sure but I think the drain plug was only on the earlier dsm cars right?

And can I get to the fuel pump from under the seat

Old fuel will not harm the pump, it still being fuel but will not be as strong as new.

Here is a diagram of the connector (post #312)http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/dri...uys-enter-here-advanced-merged-2-07-a-11.html

Look where the FWD 2 pin wires connects to the awd connector, those 2 wires are + and -, Check which is ground and which is positive, once you know which is positive, then add current to it, just get a long wire from the battery (+) all the way to the pump, make sure to use a fuse in between and you are it.

Check this thread, http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/403987-2g-fuel-pump-install.html
The second pic shows where you have to remove the fuel hose, It's underneath the car, just remove it, install a bucket and add power to the pump, it is extremely easy, I did this when I bought my GSX.

Edit,

For those claiming for the drain plug, there is no drain plug on 2g's, I have 2 1995 (2gs), one is awd and one is fwd and none of them has the drain plug, I have heard of drain plugs on the tanks, but it might apply to the 1g's only and not the 2gs.

I found where the fuel line is, but I can't seem to figure out from the link where this connector your talking about is located. And does it matter what size wire and type of fuse I use to make it run? Thank you. Thanks to everyone else who helped. And I haven't started it yet, will do tomorrow after the oil is changed. Should I replace the antifreeze aswell? It doesn't smell as strong as normal and smells somewhat like piss but it retained its color for the most part.

How do I remove the fuel already in the fuel lines? And can I replace the fuel filter that's currently installed with one from oriellys or something?

The drain plug on gas tank would have been helpful LOL

That doesn't look like a OBDII port but he would have to turn it facing the camera to be sure. The Boston box, early Boston acoustics blue tooth? Trace the wires and see were they go. SECURE that fuel filter unless you like your new GSX extra crispy!

I just found a PDA looking device that that wire plugged into. Im assuming this is for tuning? Can I use this somehow to turn on the fuel pump with a push of a button? And I will secure it before starting very good idea

I totally forgot about the fuel pump check connector, there is a plug in front on the engine bay, It is black and is located behind the battery, You just add current to the plug from the battery and the pump will turn ON.
Here is a thread showing the plug you will be looking for.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/454871-97-fuel-pump-activation-connector.html

Concerning about the coolant, I would turn it ON, let it warm up and let it recirculate for a minute and change it.

Make sure when you get the car running that you change the timing belt ASAP, along with all the other belts. Not driving the car enough has similar effects on a car with a lot of miles. Weather and other things are taking its toll on the car whether its driven or not.

Timing Belt
Tensioner Pulley
Everything timing related needs to be replaced before you drive it or floor it.
Plugs/Wires
Full fluid service
Use gas treatment on the old gas if you cant pump it out

After all of the basic maintenance is done, make sure you run a boost leak test as most of those gaskets are old and probably cracking.

Oh okay guys thanks Ill change all of those soon. I've changed the oil already Im just waiting to get he fuel changed outbefore I try and start it. And thanks for hat link showing the connected I couldn't find it for the life of me thanks

I cant find the connector I know its a swapped 6 bolt motor so maybe that has something to do with it but the area its supposed to be in is gutted out basically

And what the hell is going on with the fuel pump connectors? Any insight to this?
