Hello all, I picked up a 97 tsi about a year ago. The only mod the car had was a T28. Since I have had the car I have installed; K&N afkit, accel thunder cables with proper spark plugs re-gaped, Megan cat delete, STM fuel pump rewire kit, autometer 30/30 boost gauge, aem wideband, along with all free mods. Parts I have, but not installed are; BlackBox ecu with boot/reflash cable wired in, tactrix openport cable, Hallman pro MBC, high flow fuel filter kit, and evo 560cc. I might have left a few parts out, but that's what I can remember.
I have also replaced the timing and balance shaft belt's along with idlers and timing belt tensioner. Car is running strong and healthy, very dependable car.
The last modification I had installed was the Megan cat delete. Prior to the cat delete, the car would boost around 16ish psi and fall to 14ish. This was under full WOT and I always had 10.0 A/F readings. After cat delete was installed, the car boosted to about 18ish in second gear and would spike to 20 in third, and A/F finally stared to lean out to around 10.3, at which time I would stop the pull because I didn't want to do any damage. I am now ready to install the BlackBox, 560's, and mbc.
I have a few question I hope to get some feed back on. First question is, Should I be able to just unplug the stock ecu and reinstall the BlackBox, I was thinking I would unplug the battery before, but is it just a simple swap or am I missing something?
Second question, I have a ASUS small laptop/tablet, the style where the screen detaches and becomes a touch screen tablet. Should this work (when in full laptop mode) for running Evoscan, evoflash, cedddys mods? I am a bit uneasy as its small, not a full size laptop. It is running windows8 and has a one USB port in the keyboard part of the laptop. Anyone running evoflash with the newer small laptops? I was considering going and buying a cheap laptop from Walmart and using it only for tuning. But, if I can use the ASUS I would rather spend the money on a intercooler upgrade.
Any input would be helpfully.
