I have looked for an answer to this but after a couple of days I just cannot find it. I just bought my first DSM last weekend so I am ignorant about it all.

I just got a 95 Eagle Talon Tsi Awd and looking to get something setup to log data and tune. It is currently using a 3" GM MAF with a MAFT. The car runs OK but needs to be tuned and the only option I have currently is the old school MAFT. It has an ecu and wiring harness out of a 99 GSX (MD359403). My understanding is that this ecu is flashable. The #79 pin also has a wire coming out of it on my wiring harness. My thought was to get ecuflash and evoscan, but I have run into a problem. I can find the OBD2 plug, but I cannot find the 12 pin plug to reflash the ecu.

    So my questions really are:
Does the #79 wire on the gsx harness go directly from the ecu to the flash port (meaning I need to look harder and maybe its just hiding somewhere under the dash)?
Does the #79 wire on the gsx harness go to some other harness or plug before terminating at the flash port (meaning I might be missing the port altogether because it was not installed by the previous owner)?
Am I barking up the wrong tree and should go about it differently?

95 won't have the flash port next to the obd2 port since the ecu in 95 was not flashable, you usually add a pin and wire to the ecu harness socket which then goes to the tactrix flash port plug which has a headphone style plug, not sure of which pin number on the ecu offhand
You would need to be sure your ecu is a black box style ecu from the 98 and later dsm, it was pretty much plug and play for 97 but 95-96 had the different CAS orientation and coil pack triggering I believe
The wire goes direct from the ecu to the tactrix flashport so if the wire you found is for flashing it probably isn't connected to anything on the other end and should have a headphone style plug on the end

Yes I’m sure I’ve got a blackbox ecu. It’s sitting in front of me now and I have checked the model number. The CAS has been modified to a 1g. This wiring harness is from a 99 gsx.

If the flash port is part of the 99 wiring harness, and not a removable part of the wiring, then I probably have it somewhere under the dash. I didn’t know if that wire goes from the ecu to another harness or something before ending at the port.

Which part of the harness is a 99? You could have a 99 engine harness and a 95 body harness. If you go to the junk yard you can normally find an 3g Eclipse or a 9th Galant with a flash port if you need one.

I’m not totally sure... I know at least the part that connects to the ecu with the four plugs is from a 99 gsx. Is the obd2 and the flash port connected to the body harness?

btw thank you lgracer and stillrunning for your help!

IIRC yes the OBD2 port and flash connector are part of the body harness. Im not much of a 2g guy but just did a evo 8 ecu swap in a friends 97 GSX. We had to add in the Flash port to the ECU.
