Hey,
this is actually a long term question.

The thing is:
I got my car inspected and got the turbo swap legalized.
I'm from Germany so that wasn't very easy because the TÜV isn't someone who isn't willing to allow modficated cars to drive on the road.

Right now I'm running a Evo3 16G.
So in the official TÜV-report it says: "TD05H Evo3 Turbo" ... 250hp, 155mph topspeed.

The problem is: If you get pulled over by the cops the often check the report and compare it to the car.

Right a few days before I got the car tagged I realized that I may reached the limit of the turbo.
(running 31Psi peak falling to 23psi at 8000rpm , ported turbo, ported Evo3 manifold, 2.5" exhaust, E85, 850ccm injectors, 255lhp walbro, FP2 cams. Evo8 Ecu with custom tune, should produce 370+hp).

I want the get every little bit right in 2012... but what after that?
The power output is something the police can not check, but they will check if the housing says: TD05H.

So can you name the biggest turbo in a TD05H Housing?
A 20G?
FP 68HTA?

Or is the best way to mod a TD06H cover to wear a TD05H writing? ;)
And how streetable are these turbos? Its still a street car, running the dragslip just twice a year.

Thanks guys :)

Show me how you fit a fully-assembled turbo into one of those piece-of-shit boxes that are slightly thicker than notebook paper. They're the perfect size to fit nothing into. I'll bet the USPS researched quite a while to come up with a box size that nothing fits into.

For Christ's sake, Bud....send the guy a PM.

So your saying I can't ship you my turbo in a flat rate box...Thanks debbie downer..LOL

I will send him a Pm, you watch and see..

there is no EU 92-94 facelift model. They used the 90-92 model and added a light level adust (to keep the lights on the road when the car is loaded... just some useless stuff).
So the taillights will not fit, they have sharp corners like the 90-92 model.

E85, yes it is available but very limited so the next station next to geilenkirchen would be 40km away in Aachen.

You mean 89-91..

So there are no 92-94's in europe?

1989 wasn't a model year. Cars made in 1988 and 1989 were all released in the 1990 model year so he was correct in saying 90-92 model.

Back to the original topic; I was going to suggest the Buschur Racing TD05/6 hybrid 20g but I just looked at Buschur's site and they don't list it anymore.

To my knowledge that turbo was built entirely by FP and was nothing more than your basic TD05H 20G with an aggressive turbine clip and a downfiring TD06-style compressor cover.

I *think* the O.P. is seeking something that still appears to be OEM fitment in order to pass some sort of visual inspection similar to what California residents are faced with. If that's the case, your absolute best bet if you have money to burn is the 68HTA. If money is more of an issue, a Sleeper 16G/Bastard 20G can be built which is the largest compressor that comfortably fits behind a TD05H cover.

To Justin: If the OP bought a 20G compressor wheel on ebay, would he need to get it balanced?

Also, If he were to get it and it needed balanced, what would be the consequenses of just throwing it on and running it?

Are we talking about 6 bolt models or are we talking about 1ga,1gb...Cause we all know the difference between the two..

That has nothing to do with the OPs thread.. WTF

Well...they're $140 more. So he could save quite a bit if they come pre-balanced. But a helpful link nonetheless:thumb:

Yes but you also know what you are getting. Robert and the guys at FP know their sh*t and would be the ones to talk to when it comes to stuffing a 20G wheel into a different comp housing.

Not only that but we should be supporting the guys who support the community, where possible.

Absolutely true. But Most don't have almost half the cost of a complete 20g to spend on just the wheel. I know some may say that is cutting corners but I don't think that is the case with just the wheel and comp wheel. If I bought the whole turbo from Zin-Zang turbos off ebay, then ya LOL

Just want to know if these ebay comp wheels come balanced.

I'd first be worried about whether or not your getting an actual MHI wheel, let alone if its balanced or made out of a material that can deal with the heat and stresses associated with being spun 135k rpm or more.

I do see what you are saying about the cost, but in the end it is worth it on multiple levels. Take your time, save a bit more and do it right the first time.

What if some casting flaw in the fleaBay wheel rears its head under WOT, it grenades or bursts, ruins the comp housing and takes out your long block?

I'm not one to pretend I've never bought a cheap part due to budget constraints, but I like to believe I've learned from past mistakes and now take the time and spend the money on the right stuff. I trust next to nothing on eBay unless its coming from a reputable vendor's eBay store. Even then I would rather call them up, do it over the phone, cut out the paypal fees and have a name and a warranty where possible.

Excellent points. All of them. I appreciate your input. Its better to do it right the first time. I have also have learned that lesson the hard way LOL who hasn't. But...still interested if these wheels come pre-balanced. Who knows? It could be a nice piece. Anyways, thanks for the advice.

No problem, wish I could answer that for you. I remember reading they come individually balanced, but anytime you swap wheels, shafts or CHRAs I would have the whole assembly spun and balanced together.

But I am OCD. So there is that.

All new compressor wheels *should* be balanced when you buy them in order to bring the turbo to an acceptable balance tolerance. If you can trust the source, I'd say throw it on and give it a shot....although the turbo should be balanced as a rotating assembly if you're seeking OEM durability.

A question that had nothing to do with the thread. He was correct, we were both off topic. Hence why I stopped responding to you.

You don't like responding to me anyway...This is my last off topic post on this thread..So keep in in private..

Okay so I'm not completely crazy, thanks for chiming in!

Edit: JusMX141 I just tried to send you a PM regarding a Pro52 Upgrade, and for whatever reason it just takes me to a grey blank screen.

I'm not sure if that is because of my member status or what.

Thank for your opinion guys.
So the cheapest way is just install a 20G cover an wheel. FP doesn't sell any machined covers so some chinese ebay seller would get this deal.
Other option would be getting a 68HTA or asking FP if the can a TD05H housing fit to a fp-green turbo? (might work?)

@Bud92GSX
They did sell 93 models here.
But they are not real 93 models.
They just took old models and mod them to meet new EU laws.

So they look very similar to 1GA

You can tell the difference when looking at the popup lights.
And they do have 7bolt engines.

This is impossible in a factory, unmodded TD05H cover as the Green's compressor inducer is larger than the housing's inlet. Like I said earlier- you're limited to a 20G or 68HTA as the largest compressor to fit behind a TD05H cover.
