Like title says I'm looking for the best setup for my gsx. I know nothing of manual cars all my dsms have been automatics. My car is gonna be around 400whp and the powerband is moved more up top head is built to rev higher. And this is gonna be my dd/street car so if anyone has input on setups post your information with pros and cons of each. Its not a drag car and I'm not looking forward to launching the car either

By far the best set up i have ever driven on would have to be my 2600 stock flywheel stepped correctly with a new master slave throw out and fork. Worst is a toss up my zoom stg 1 was great just couldnt hold the power, 2900 on alum flywheel good but went through hydraulic components (guessing cheap auto parts junk) but i can blame my bent clutch pedal on that one.

Be sure to remove the pos accumulator assy and replace it with a ss line and also be sure to adjust everything correctly

Anyone else got input on setups I know there's people out there that have manual cars. What Im thinking so far is a act 2600 with street disk and act flywheel

Great choice, especially since youre AWD, the 2600 is a great clutch, with excellent power holding capability. Ive been running one for ten years and it holds up to spirited driving and launches at the track. Ive never dynoed my car, but I run 25 psi daily on an 18g5h, 11:1 afr, and its never slipped once. Just double check the flywheel for proper step height, adjust the clutch correctly, and follow break in procedure, and youll never have issues :thumb:
One more thing, use an OEM throw out bearing, they are better designed than the ones that come with the clutch. I had the tabs that hold the TOB to the fork break off on my TOB, and I had to drop the tranny to swap it :tease:

I just don't know if I should stick with the street disk or get something different. Anyone else got any info?

I would go with a ACT 2600 and a south bend kevlar disk. There are a few threads about this setup and Twicks69 highly recommends it Probably one of the best street setups out there. I previously ran a ACT organic disk and when compared to the kevlar there is a huge difference. It will hold more power and take more abuse while still retaining great engagement characteristics. Plus it will give you more room for additional power in case you decide you need more than 400 more so than the ACT organic disk will. Just make sure when you do the swap you replace the fork and pivot ball with new OEM pieces and make sure it lines up correctly before putting it all back together. I have thrown everything my 68HTA has at it and it has never slipped once.

+1 on the 2600 with kevlar disk. That is very streetable. I also like the 2600 with a 6 puck unsprung. I never knew how streetable it was till i drove one. It pulled out the same as having a sprung street disk and would take a high shift. The only downside is i dont know how long it lasts in comparison to a street disk. At first when you get a 2600 it feels like hell on your left leg but after a month it breaks in and your leg gets used to it.

Kevlar disks are real nice on a street car. Look at competition clutches kevar kit as I have used a few of there clutches and are high quality

ACT 2600 with 6 puck sprung and ACT lightweight flywheel love it my gsx loves it its great but the first 2 weeks are rough as hell to break in LOL

This is the setup I am having the shop drop in tomorrow hopefully. This will be my third 2600 pressure plate. The previous two had street disks which was a very nice setup for the street, but slippage and 50K miles and some good launches did slightly warp the friction surface of the pressure plate. I am hoping the 6 puck grabs more and slips less while still keeping some drivability. Anyone that says the 2600 is too stiff is a pathetic excuse of a man. My 105 lb g/f can drive it just fine.

I run a 2600 pressure plate and Im switching to the Southbend Kevlar disk. My street disk is starting to slip at 25 psi but it does have some miles on it. You could also check out the full Southbend SS kit: TMZ Performance

This is exactly what I was going to recommend!

Run the stock flywheel with a resurface at a step height of 0.608"-0.612", use a new OEM Mitsubishi throwout bearing, a new Mitsubishi clutch fork and clutch fork pivot ball along with a South Bend Clutch SS-Series pressure plate and TZ-Series full-face sprung-hub Kevlar clutch disk. It is an excellent clutch that will easily handle your power levels while not being overkill on the transmission or on your leg. Very smooth engagement characteristics along with great torque capacity, long life and gentle on the engine's thrust bearings. The pedal pressure will be softer than an ACT 2600 pressure plate and will be just a bit stiffer than stock.

If you are intending on upgrading flywheels, I would recommend taking a look at the ACT Streetlite Chromoly Steel flywheel, and purchasing a new set of 7-bolt AWD flywheel bolts.

Torque the pressure plate to 18-22 ft/lbs, and then torque the flywheel bolts to 100 ft/lbs with Loctite Red threadlocker.

Also while the transmission is off the car, inspect the crank rear main seal for leakage, along with the transmission-to-block dowels. If the dowels are elongated or damaged, replace them with new ones.

Hope that this helps!

Thanks,

Tim Zimmer

Thanks tim for the information I don't have a flywheel so ill look into the act one and I'm already replacing everything that's clutch related with oem parts. So it would be the first kit on the page? Also I have a 6 bolt block so I need to get a 6 bolt clutch/flywheel or 7 bolt?

I have a ACT 2600 with a sprung 6puck and I don't mind it at all. a little chatter here and there especially reversing but ACT says that combo will hold ~415tq which should be perfect for your goals.

Everyone will say their own clutch setup is the best there is so take everything with a grain of salt. For all you know, they could be some crazy buff dude where a 2600 feels like pushing on a pillow.

The only thing I will say, is that you will want to go for an unsprung clutch disc. It will drastically improve your high RPM shifting.

Yes, it would be the first one there, $440. If you want to use an aftermarket flywheel instead of the stock 6bolt one you'll want to grab the 6bolt act streetlite and new 6bolt flywheel bolts instead. And if you go with the new flywheel you won't have to worry about setting step height, it would come within spec.

Im not saying that the 2600 is too stiff I am saying the break in period is not fun times due to the clutch chatter, and extreme grabbing of the clutch at first gear take off as the clutch just engages grabs and almost launches the car. Once the clutch breaks in and the chatter is gone the clutch is actually pretty easy to drive with, def didnt sat it was too stiff for me.

I'd definitely recommend something like the ACT2600 as a pressure plate or something equivalent in weight, I went with the ACT2100 Clutch kit recently including ACT Flywheel. I find it to light too much of a stock feel, like driving a civic.,..

I recently installed a comp. clutch flywheel with a act 2600 with a sheptrans rebuilt pedal assembly. pedal effort is a little heavy but I like it. I am also right at the 400hp or more but dyno will tell what i really have.
