i'm doing this thread in hopes of finding the best clutch disc. personally, i'm wantitng to go with an act2600 pressure plate. i've been wanting to go with the act disc but i'll be scared if i use it again being that i've had one disc pop springs, another with really loose springs, and i PERSONALLY know of numerous other people who have had the same problem. so who would ya'll suggest? looking for the disc that doesn't pop springs on a regular basis, and last a pretty decent amount of time. if i leave out a manufacturer, please forgive me and just type in a reply. thanks!

scott

p.s., i left out spec...wherever it is that you'd get them from.

I've had both a CF Dual Friction and an ACT 2600. The CF only lasted through like 5 launches. The ACT takes a beating time and time again. I'm still on my first disc, and have never heard of the spring problems, so no experience in that area.

On a side note, I support the 2600 PP and I never feel it being too heavy unless I'm sitting in bumper to bumper on the expressway for 30 minutes or more. I can't stand STOCK feeling clutches. Especially on a higher HP car, it just feels weird that you are controlling something so massive/powerful with a little lever your finger can press down. Same goes for power steering that steers itself. Yuck! I like feeling like I'M driving the car, not the car driving me.

Just my .02

In one nite alone at the track with my act2600 & streetlite flywheel I launched 12 times at a hair shy of 7k rpms and I drove home that nite without a care in the world as to if my clutch/flywheel were ok. Maybe i'm the only one that trusts act anymore.

I must live in a cave, never heard of the clutch problem before, but then again this is my first manual, and even though I've had my DSM for 6 or 7 years, I've only put 20k miles on it :D

Greeeeeeeeeat. Another thing to worry about falling apart

I'm planning on the tranny taking a sh!t sometime soon anyway, so whatever happens, happens.

DSM's are such great cars to make you appreciate when things DON'T go wrong with cars/stuff/life!

for you guys who used an ACT and replaced it with something else, mind telling us whatcha got to replace it with and how well it's working? if you're still using an ACT pp, etc.? thanks!

RPS and ACT disks are identical. This is true fact as I had two in front of me 2 weeks ago and there was absolutely no difference. From what I heard from my good DSM buddy, they are all made by Exedy. His Exedy looked identical to his old ACT disk.

I put in a Competition sprung 6 puck. It's prone to chatter but hooks up like you can't believe. Not as "streetable" as a full face and will allow you to break your tranny if you are so inclined.

dunno how you've never heard of the spring popping problem on an ACT before but sure it's possible. at any rate, here ya go....

A strong corelation between installation errors and hub breakage exists here, yes?

The only failure I have had was in a diaphragm spring. ACT replaced the clutch even though is was out of warranty by a year.

Didn't see it on the poll, but I'd vote for Spec Stage 3+. 525 ft/lbs torque holding capacity, less pressure than a 2600, pedal pressure almost identical to stock, and a very well designed throwout bearing. I've been using it for a few months with great success.

Well, I've been having bad luck with clutch disc. And it sure as heck isn't from installation errors. I've installed more clutches than I can count. The only bad one's I've had are with the ACT and my recent failure of the eClutchmasters 6 puck disc.

Yes, I failed to add it to the list at the time and wish I could somehow. But this is the very clutch I'm gonna go with. Haven't heard bad things about this clutch like I have others (can't launch it repeatedly, springs popping, etc.). I'm very interested in seeing what it'll do especially with the lightened pressure plate that I'm gonna go with as well (among all the other things in the motor I'm doing to lighten the setup).

ive had 2 2600s i like em. make sure on whatever clutch you get that your master and slave cylinder are in good condition.
