Basic MAFT Questions
What is it?
What does it do?
Where does it go?
Where does the xxxx color wire go?
Can I vent with a MAFT?
What MAF can I use?
Can I use a 2g MAFT with a 1g?
Can I use a 1g MAFT with a 2g?

Sorry guys !but am not really sure about this one. What does the MAFT really do and is it a good buy?thanks

i read in a few places that i need a tuning device with the maft. is that true? its a 2g by the way

Yea, they are probably thinking of the gm mas, to run one you need a "tuning device" (maft). The maft is a tuning device itself. Needing a tuning device for a tuning device is just silly, LOL.

so what are the two other wires on the translator for. i heard the purple one is aux for nitrous and the white is rpm? im not sure but do i need either

alright well i am debatting weather i want to get a maft or not, i really do think its a good idea but i want other peoples opinions, this is my setup its a jdm evo1 motor with 510cc, 190 fuel pumpinjectors, t3/t4 57 trim turbo, tubular manifold, external wastegate set to 18 psi, and fmic setup, thats pretty much it. i know i need bigger injectors but i think there fine for now and my airfuel says im still really rich so im good, but let me know if thats is a good investment or if there is anything else i should get before that..besides injectors.....thanks guys

2g mas + dsmlink...unless you want to vent, then go for the maft. I have had the maft for 3 years and i been back on the 2g mass since last year, car runs much better. I haven't sold the maft and its actually still in my uicp but i won't touch it til dsmlink v3 comes out with gm maf support which will eliminate the translator.

Alot of fast guys run the gm maf and alot of fast guys hate it... :)

DSMLink v3 will eliminate the Translator? Where did you read that?

Is the DSMLink supose to come out soon?

My opinion, no. Not worth it, go with a 2g maf. OR DSMlink.

And for the love of pete, PLEASE use proper grammar and punct.

Hey! how's he supposed to run a 2g maf w/ out some sort of fuel control:tease: . If he has to get a maf anyway because he certainly will overrun the 1g maf, then w/ a good deal on a maft he will have a maf he can get for 35 bones and a decent way to control 650s.

Yea 90highpsitsi, just for future reference, its hard to get a respectful response when you're typing in such a manner. We all think you speak that way. I'd certainly like to think that you don't:thumb: .

A maft does fine for 510cc injectors, and can control up to 650cc injectors w/out much issue. The 3" gm maf can meter up to 60lbs/min (over 600whp) w/ out blinking out.

Yes dsmlink is DEFINATELY ("as close as definate as you can get", according to Thomas Dorris) going to allow one to do away w/ the translator in it's next release. When is the next release is the burning question!!!???

Maf-t is the way to go, venting> recirculating in my book :thumb:

If I could do my car over again I would get the maf-t before anything else, biggest improvement I did to my car aside from the 50trim turbo ROFL

Now DSMLINK Doesn't do blow through, if I understand correctly, yet. That being said if you want to vent correctly get the maf-t untill the DSMLINK is ready, and u can afford the ecu+socketing+DSMLINK+laptop. For me it's way outa the question $ wise.

I currently use Safc-II and maf-t, but the maf-t is only used for translating my GM maf, not for tuning, I find it to be very NON user friendly :|

Good luck, btw hope you got a logger, and or a wideband O2

I have had quite a few customers go this route. The maft is a big improvement as far as air intake restrictions but it can't be tuned very well with just the control box. Almost everyone I know that has run a maft has had to also run an SAFC2 at a minimum to control fuel somewhat accurately. If you wanna run a maft thats good but plan on spending some more money with it.

Of course. But a maft in blow thru requires tuning. You just can't slap it on and set it for 450cc (Stock) injectors in bluwthur. The blow thru mode reads richer and some times leaner than stock. The best way to tune a blowthru setup is w/ a wideband. But atleast having a logger that can record knock (timing dips for 2G guys) and % IDC would be good. . .

Sorry neighbor, I can't support that.

I recently threw my maf-t on, set stock all nobs, blow through and didn't have to touch my safc-II.

Now granted I later fixed some other issues and have since turned my safc-II up or down 1 point in a few of the 4k+ bands but nothing remotely needed safety wise.

I'd toss it on there and set it on stock settings for your current equipment and roll :thumb:

I was simply saying that 2g maf is the way to go over maft. I wasn't going to tell him everything he needed to know to run it because he didn't ask. Nor should he because a search could answer.

That's ok. Considering that I had to totally hack my low settings and several other aquaintances have had to do the same, this begs to be mentioned. You may or may not have to adjust, but too many have needed to adjust not to recommended a look at the trims.
