Basic MAFT Questions
What is it?
What does it do?
Where does it go?
Where does the xxxx color wire go?
Can I vent with a MAFT?
What MAF can I use?
Can I use a 2g MAFT with a 1g?
Can I use a 1g MAFT with a 2g?

Sorry guys !but am not really sure about this one. What does the MAFT really do and is it a good buy?thanks

This quite possibley could be a pretty unintelligent question but I'll ask it anyway. I'm wondering if there is any way to install an MAF-T without using it to tune and using it more or less as just a translator for the gm mas? I'm slowly buying the parts to piece together a whole new setup but my stock bov leaks and my 2g mas is screwed up so I can't even drive my car while I wait for the funds for the rest of the setup. I already have a 3" gm mas and a MAF-T sitting in the backseat waiting for the rest of the new setup and I'd like to install my new bov and gm mas but I don't have any type of logger. Is there any way to just hook up the MAF-T and gm mas without changing my stock tune at all? Any help appretiated and welcomed!

My car will be chipped with the eprom and i will have the boost gauge set for knock, but i plan on leaving it just to translate the gm maf. I won't be doing anytuning unless i need to. I would put it on, but just take it easy if you can't read knock or idc. You should be ok

i have a gm maft that is set at zero and has been since i bought it i only use it to translate the signal i use my logger system and afc to do the tuning

His only problem is he has noway of know his idc and his af/r or if he's knocking. Just as long as your car doesn't need tuned you should be fine just leaving it zeroed out. Can you not just recirc your new bov? What kind is it ?

Do you know anyone with a wideband or logger that you can use to dial in the settings when you install the maft? Some can get away with being zerod but it will run a lot better if you can set it properly when you install it.

I would put the extra 50-100 bucks in finding a used palm, cable, and software. Then you can tune as well. If the main reason your wanting it on is just to drive the car. Leave it zeroed out as if you were running stock, but i would avoid getting on it. With your mod's you should be fine if you did get on it, though i wouldn't recommend it without at least knowing knock.

you really shouldnt mess with your a/f mixture w/o knowing the effects. Even Zero'd out, its still not stock flow/settings.

Hmmm I see... So its not really possible to do... The problem with borrowing a logger is first of all, I know nobody around me that has any tuned eclipses that would have one for me to borrow. And secondly, I don't have any idea how to use any of the tuning equipment as of yet. I have a greddy rs bov but don't have the recirc kit for it nor do I have another mas to replace the stock one yet. I could fork out the extra cash to get a pocketlogger but I'd really rather not because then I'd have to try to sell it when I get the DSMLink. Well thanks much for the imput. Maybe I'll try to install it with the settings zeroed out and see what luck I have. Running poorly is better than its running now I guess, LOL.

The guy I got my setup from ran his without a logger...Just need to set it to what makes it run alright I guess....

He was constantly fiddling with it.
Ill ask him tomarrow, I work with em so it shouldnt be a big deal, but you can do it.

On the maft where does the purple wire go ?Nvm looks like the quy before me used purple wire to extend the white wire for rpm signal, but just to verify is there only a red and white wire ?

The purple wire is a trigger switch for the AUX setting, intended for use with nitrous. If you don't have nitrous, don't use it.

IT was an extension on the the white wire didn't pay attention. It was for rpm's. I think everything is taken care of we will see when the car is done if it needs anythign additional

Sorry it took me so long....

But ya. He said that all he did was adjust the setting as stated in the manual. Then he just adjusted the fuel down a lil bit.

He just felt it out I guess. He was running rich still. Had he used a logger the car would have performed better no question, but until you get there, just adjust as needed....

You've been around long enough to know that bumping your posts is frowned upon and will only get you a lock.

I have looked around for the answer to this question, but could not find it anywhere, including other forums. What exactly is a MAFT? I think that it is a program that you use to fine tune your MAF, but I do not know for sure. Would this help in resetting the MAF so that you could use a non-recirculating BOV, because I bought one before I learned that DSM's need a recirculating BOV to run properly.

The Maft is a actually the translator box. You place a GM maf in the intercooler pipe and you remove the stock maf from your intake. The translator accounts for the air that you would lose while shifting that your stock maf wont. You can get a basic tune on the maft depending on which injectors you have but I would recommend getting at least as SAFC.

I was just looking up 3" GM MAFs and it said that if you would like to vent your BOV into the atmosphere, that you could put the MAF after the BOV. Would this be a smart idea? I would think that you could do it, but since you would be releasing so much air, there would be almost no reading by the MAF and the engine would try to suck more air in, making you run lean.

a MAF-Translator is just that... it replaces a stock 1g or 2g MAS, and converts that GM MAF hotwire signal to allow your DSM to use it. It can be run in either pull through (stock) location or a blow through (between the BOV and throttle body) location. When the GM MAF is between the throttle body and the bov, you can vent the BOV to atmosphere without running rich.

I was reading a post that said that the MAF acts like a SAFC, and that you do not need one. It also mentioned a speed density sensor, I have been looking into what exactly it is, and I know that it is a harness that plugs into the MAF, the MAP sensor and the air temp, which it said to get for the MAFT. Can anyone help me know more about the speed density harness?

MAFT can adjust idle, mid, wot fuel trims like a safc... adjusting the knobs can be a pain, if you install the MAFT under the hood... If you set all of your MAFT to zero, you can use a SAFC or DSMLINK to tune instead of the MAFT.

Personally, I'm happy with MAFT's capability to tune, but running over 400whp I wouldn't recommend it, you're getting to the point where DSMLINK's timing capabilities come in handy.

Im not sure about the whole speed density thing, maybe someone else will jump in. But I like the "fine tuning" of the SAFC over the Maft program.
