I'm sorry to have to deliver bad news but a foreign object went through the timing belt and the engine has been destroyed. I do not have the money for another engine. I'm sorry but we will not be competing in RTA for the duration of the season at least. I need to find a job.

We did run fast enough in practice for a win, it was just unfortunate it had to go down like that. But the guy who did win Clint Boisdeau is a good friend and he is honestly deserving of that win and has always competed honorably. I will be attending auto club speedway to support our team with the Miata as well as Clint and a few other friends. This is racing, catastrophic losses like this happens and you just look at what you can improve and figure out how to move forward with next season.

Slapping a junkyard motor into a car like that just doesn't fly. Everything is so specific and working in harmony with specific components, we have to put the same motor back in that came out and I just don't have the money for that any time soon.

That's awful :( Terribly sorry for the loss man. I'd contribute money to get you a new motor, though I doubt we have enough folks on here as mentally vested in your success to get you there. If you put together some sort of fund for this post about it!

Wow what a shame. Keep the hopes up guys.

wow that is terrible.. damn foreign objects!!!

Sad to hear about that. I myself have had one too many of those foreign object incidents (usually after jumping over a sand berm). Good luck with getting her back out on the track.

It looks like the head was destroyed and the piston in #1 cylinder. So we'd need a head core, a set of pistons for the long rods and someone to donate ALL that machine work. The block was already bored 30 over so we can't bore it anymore. We haven't even gotten it off to see what else is wrong so there could be more. Probably at least a few valves.

Theres also so many miscellaneous parts that would be needed I'm not even sure of. It would take an angel at this point.

Man that sucks... I guess I'll keep my timing belt cover on... I hope you're up an running again soon. FWD FTW!

hey guys, got the head off Drews car today after work and it looks pretty bad and the #1 piston is really f$%#d.

anywayz, Im about to pull out the motor by tomorrow and drop it off to the machine shop by friday. hope we get a good cylinder head and a 2.4 block so that we can start building the new motor.

also, I like RipperXX idea.. I mean, that would REALLY HELP A LOT! we really like representing the DSM community and as far as I know, we're the only DSM (aside from Evo's) competing really hard in the West Coast Redline Time Attack race. thanks again guys.

aite, peace.

Hey guys, a lot of people are coming together to help us out with getting a new motor put together. TEM Machine shop has committed to help us out with machine work! I'm picking up a bare head from Sam @ RRE today. Thank you SO much to those guys for anything they have offered to help. There are going to be many many more parts that we need to get the car back together and a very short time to get it done in. We're going to need lots of parts on a **RIGHT NOW** basis to make this happen. I want to say the most heartfelt thank you to all the people who donated something and even offered to donate something.

Soon we will know the list of parts that we need. I think the big hard to find thing is a 6 bolt 2.4 block and we may or may not need a crank but the block definitely has to be replaced because it cannot be bored again.

Also I dont know what we're going to do about the timing cover yet... still working on those details. My first thought is just cutting up a few covers and epoxy them together. I may be able to source it in Japan market since Japan market had that combination of engine but just not that combination of engine + the engine mount setup the 2g DSM have here in the US. So there may be a cover that works just cut out to allow the 2g DSM motor mounts.

Drew, I have two junk yards around my "area" within 150 miles that have 1990 Hyundai Sonata engines in stock.

If this model will work, I can look into it. As well, are there any other vehicles that the G4CS block came in so I can add it to my search.

Thanks,

The only one I knew of was that hyundai and yah that one will definately work!! I think there was a certain model of galant as well... how much did they want for those? Can you PM me? I couldnt find any near here.
